Indonesian Student of Our University Participates in China-ASEAN Youth Marine Cooperation Roundtable

On the afternoon of November 17th, Abizar Dirsan Gifari (Dai Sheng), a Chinese Government Scholarship recipient from Indonesia and a member of the China-Indonesia Marine Ecological Ranching Technology Cooperation Research Project team at Shanghai Ocean University, was invited to the "China-ASEAN Youth Marine Cooperation Roundtable" in Fuzhou.

The roundtable discussed "China-ASEAN marine policies", "marine industry cooperation innovation" and "youth participation in marine cooperation", offering new ideas for bilateral marine cooperation and showing ASEAN youth’s leading role in promoting exchanges and development.

Abizar shared his study life at Shanghai Ocean University and his experience in the China-Indonesia marine ecological ranching cooperation project. He noted that the project allowed him to learn advanced Chinese marine technology, combine it with Indonesia’s social background for his research, and act as a communication bridge between universities of the two countries, effectively promoting marine cooperation.

Guided by the Belt and Road Initiative, the project has achieved remarkable results, including developing artificial reefs and releasing fry. As part of the 2025 China-ASEAN Week, the roundtable aimed to build a youth-oriented platform to foster marine cooperation talents and advance the China-ASEAN blue economic partnership.

China Unveils First Distant-Water Squid Traceability Equipment

China's first full-process traceability equipment for distant-water squid was launched in Zhoushan, Zhejiang on Tuesday. Developed by Shanghai Ocean University professors Chen Xinjun and Cao Shouqi, the intelligent system integrates modal data fusion, AI image recognition, Beidou tracking, and blockchain storage.

It collects real-time fishing data—including time, location, vessel ID, and corporate credentials—and builds an immutable blockchain ledger, addressing long-standing traceability challenges in remote fisheries. This fills a domestic technological gap, supporting the "transparent ocean" and "trustworthy catch" initiatives.

Consumers can scan a QR code to track squid from ocean to plate, boosting food safety confidence. The equipment is set to enhance China's squid product credibility globally, with plans for national promotion and sharing with Belt and Road nations to build a sustainable global supervision system.
