🌍 SJTU-SESE Successfully Hosted the 2026 Global Summer School on Sustainability

From 28 June to 11 July 2026, over 40 students from 24 countries and regions came together in Shanghai to explore Global Climate Governance and Sustainable Development. The program was jointly organized by SJTU School of Environmental Science and Engineering (SESE), the Graduate School and Committee on Engineering and the Environment, World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO-CEE).

Through inspiring lectures, interdisciplinary discussions, industry visits, and cultural exchange, participants engaged with leading experts and gained firsthand insights into climate action, carbon neutrality, circular economy, green technologies, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Together, we're empowering the next generation of global sustainability leaders and strengthening international collaboration for a greener future. 🌱🌍

🌿 From Glass Cases to Living Gardens: Rediscovering SJTU’s Herbal Wisdom

Recently, nearly 20 students from over 10 countries joined Seeking@SJTU for "Herbal SJTU" — an immersive, outdoor lecture that brought Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to life!

Led by Assoc. Prof. Wang Mengyue from the School of Pharmacy (affectionately known on campus as the “unnamed disciple of Shennong” ), the journey took students from over 300 specimens at the TCM Exhibition Hall straight into the lush greenery of the SJTU Botanical Garden and Baicao Garden.

In just 90 minutes, campus flora transformed from daily background scenery into a living textbook of traditional wisdom.

The plants were always there — sometimes, all it takes is pausing for a second look. Next time you walk across campus, take a moment to stop and explore! 💚

New Biomarker to Differentiate Parkinson's from MSA

Over 60 million people worldwide face neurodegenerative diseases, yet early symptoms of Parkinson's disease and multiple system atrophy often overlap, making diagnosis a challenge.

A team led by Li Dan at Shanghai Jiao Tong University published a study in Cell: a new biomarker, TPPP/p25, and a method called TPPP/p25-SAA. In tests on over 200 clinical samples, it triggered strong amplification in cerebrospinal fluid of MSA patients. Using cryo-electron microscopy, the team resolved the atomic structure of TPPP/p25 amyloid fibrils for the first time.

Combined with α-Syn-SAA, this dual-target system could enable molecular subtyping of synucleinopathies. This method could improve diagnostic accuracy for these conditions.

Retrospective: 11,270 Kilometers to Celebrate 130 Years of SJTU History.

To mark the university's milestone anniversary, 218 students from 31 countries participated in the "Running@SJTU" team challenge.

Local and international students formed diverse teams to collectively run 130 kilometers over two months. The final results far exceeded expectations, with participants logging a total of 11,270 kilometers across campus. Notably, one joint Chinese-Brazilian team covered over 900 kilometers, while 16 individuals surpassed the 130-kilometer mark alone.

Beyond the physical milestones, the initiative served as a practical platform for cross-cultural communication and integration, allowing students from different backgrounds to build lasting connections on the track.
