Professor Hong Wang's team from SUSTech's Department of Materials Science and Engineering published a breakthrough in Advanced Materials on high-temperature dielectric energy storage. By introducing trace amounts of polymer semiconductor, they suppressed charge mobility at 250°C by three orders of magnitude, enabling stable, high-performance capacitive energy storage for electric vehicles, aerospace, and oil exploration applications.

Postdoctoral researcher Yan Xu from Professor Shengyi Ye's group at SUSTech, in collaboration with the University of Hong Kong and international partners, published a study in Nature Communications revealing global polar extreme region distribution images of Saturn. Using Cassini data and MHD simulations, the team identified 67 cusp events showing significant dawn-dusk asymmetry, with peak occurrence in the afternoon sector (13-15 local time) - fundamentally different from Earth's symmetrically distributed cusps.

SUSTech's Center for Language Education hosted the Fifth Global Language Day under the theme "Friendship Beyond Borders," featuring a record-breaking 30 languages and over 130 language ambassadors. The centerpiece was a Rock, Paper, Scissors challenge—highlighting the game's Chinese origins—where participants collected stamps in "Language Passports" to win prizes.

Assistant Professor Peng Zhan's team from SUSTech's Department of Ocean Science and Engineering published a study in Geophysical Research Letters revealing a novel cross-scale positive feedback mechanism in the western Arabian Sea. Under summer monsoon conditions, coastal upwelling triggers mesoscale baroclinic instability and forward energy cascade to submesoscale processes, enhancing vertical heat flux—challenging the conventional understanding that submesoscale processes peak in winter.

Associate Professor Kwai Hei Li from SUSTech's School of Microelectronics, as part of a joint research team with HKU and PKU-IOE, saw the achievement "Innovative Method for the Large-Scale Fabrication of Flexible Ultra-Flat Diamond Films" selected for China's 2025 Top 10 Scientific Advances. Published in Nature, the team's edge-exposed detachment method produces inch-scale, ultra-smooth, flexible diamond films in seconds, replacing traditional processes that took dozens of hours. This marks SUSTech's fourth selection, following previous honors in 2019, 2020, and 2023.

Professors Yuehong Chen and Yan Wu from SUSTech's School of Humanities and Social Sciences, together with Associate Professor Di Yin from Shenzhen University, created the original sci-fi script The Quantum Phantom. The work was selected as the featured cover article of Xinhua Digest, a nationally authoritative core journal, and fully reprinted. A team led by Professor Jinhui Zhong at SUSTech published two studies in Nano Letters and ACS Nano on metal plasmon–organic molecule hybrid systems. The research achieved efficient molecular triplet state generation for antibacterial applications under weak coupling, and anisotropic exciton-polariton transport with directional control under strong coupling, advancing applications in photodynamic therapy and optoelectronics.

A delegation from Seoul National University, led by President Hong-lim Ryu, visited SUSTech to deepen collaboration between the two institutions. Professor Yifan Cheng, a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, delivered a SUSTech Lecture on the cold-sensitive ion channel TRPM8. His research combines cryo-electron microscopy with hydrogen-deuterium exchange mass spectrometry to reveal how conformational dynamics and regional stability differences between human and avian TRPM8 determine cold sensitivity.

A team led by Professor Bin Ye at SUSTech published a study in Energy Economics on green finance policies in China’s power sector. A project led by SUSTech’s Advanced Institute for Ocean Research has been approved as an official action of the UN Decade of Ocean Science. The SPEED project uses artificial intelligence to build a deep-sea digital twin system, providing high-precision visualization of ocean data to support sustainable resource exploitation, ecological protection, and climate resilience through international collaboration.
