On 12th June, IBSS was proud to host another successful session of the Suzhou Executive Academy (SEA) at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University's South Campus, bringing together business leaders, academics, and industry experts from across the region.

This session focused on economics and investment insights, with expert speakers sharing perspectives on today’s economic landscape:

🔹Dr Bo Jiang (IBSS) examined the ongoing global economic reordering and the political shifts reshaping investment strategies.

🔹Shaun Brodie (Cushman & Wakefield) provided an insightful update on China’s commercial real estate market, highlighting steady policies and cautious sentiment, while emphasising that business opportunities remain.

🔹Andreas Guip, (Wanox Asia Pacific) drew on Wanox’s expansion across the APAC region to illustrate how companies are responding to volatility with agility, cultural intelligence, and long-term strategic thinking.

The Suzhou Executive Academy (SEA) is a unique educational platform and information hub established by IBSS to support business leaders across the Yangtze River Delta region. SEA events connect a community of like-minded business and academic professionals, offering global insights into today’s most pressing business topics and exclusive access to a high-level executive network.

🌟 Meet Shavelle Lee Vasca, 2025 graduate of BSc International Business with a Language at IBSS, part of Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University.

From Indonesia to Suzhou, Shavelle’s journey is one of cultural exploration, self-discovery, and rising to challenges.

🏆 From winning a basketball tournament to earning awards in Chinese poetry and public speaking, Shavelle made her mark both inside and outside the classroom. A career boot camp at XJTLU gave her the push to apply for her dream role - securing a job offer in China before graduation.

🎓 Her global perspective was further shaped by attending a fully-funded summer school at the University of Liverpool, an experience that helped her grow academically and personally.

Shavelle leaves us not just with a degree, but as a confident, cross-cultural communicator ready to take on the world.

🌟Meet Matthias Roth, 2024 IMBA alumnus at IBSS, Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University.

From a precision toolmaker in Germany to General Manager of Sommer, Matthias’ story is one of technical mastery, cultural agility, and transformational leadership.

💬 “The IMBA gave me the vocabulary, frameworks, and confidence to lead with intent. I now approach challenges from a broader vantage point—with both feet on the ground, but eyes on the horizon.”

Driven by a desire to move beyond operational leadership, Matthias joined the International MBA at IBSS to gain strategic insight and sharpen his cross-cultural leadership skills. From case-based learning and international study trips to presenting in boardrooms with confidence, Matthias used the programme to step up as a global business leader.

We’re delighted to share the success of eight of our students who recently took part in Deloitte China’s 2025 “Youth Up” Audit & Assurance (A&A) Experience Day in Shanghai.

Competing alongside peers from some of China’s most prestigious universities, our students stood out for their confidence, professionalism, and teamwork:

🏆 Six students received full-time offers for Deloitte’s Autumn 2026 intake and were named “Best Individual” in their groups.
🌟 The remaining two earned the coveted “Green Pass”, granting them direct access to Deloitte’s partner-level interviews.

These outstanding results reflect the strength of the IBSS educational philosophy of developing internationally competent, industry-ready graduates who can thrive in global business environments.

🌸 Japanese Culture in full bloom at XJTLU! 🌸

Recently, Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University hosted Japanese Culture Day, co-organised by IBSS and the School of Languages, to celebrate Japanese traditions through costumes, music and dance.

The event featured:
👘A traditional 'Yukata' experience – an opportunity for students to engage with Japanese dress.
🩰Cultural performances – renowned dancers Mutsunoya Kimie and Mutsunoya Reika showcased Japan’s artistic heritage.

For students in the BA International Business with Language program at IBSS, events like this provide valuable opportunities to immerse themselves in global cultures, enhancing both their linguistic proficiency and international business acumen.

IBSS and the School of Languages remain committed to fostering meaningful global engagement through future initiatives that integrate language, culture, and business education.

Elevating careers at IBSS!

Recently, our students toured KONE Elevator's Kunshan HQ, led by Dr Liang Wen and Ms Yahong Cai. They explored the production line, saw innovation in action and even experienced a ride in the high-speed "jump-lift" inside KONE's test tower!

A big thanks to KONE staff, including Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University alumnus Leo Liu for sharing industry insights and career advice.

At IBSS, hands-on learning like this helps students build real-world skills and career confidence.
