🌎 Could your research, professional practice, or lived experience help people and communities thrive?

The Call for Speakers for Gross Global Happiness 2027 is now open.

From 12 to 14 March 2027, researchers, educators, facilitators, coaches, consultants, wellbeing practitioners, leaders, and changemakers will gather at the University for Peace in Costa Rica for three days of learning, connection, and inspiration.

Co-hosted by the UPEACE Centre for Executive Education and the World Happiness Foundation, the Summit will explore wellbeing, purpose, positive leadership, education, peace, and social impact.

We welcome proposals that bring research, practical tools, professional expertise, innovative approaches, or lived experience to this global conversation.

The Summit will be held in English and will bring together an international community committed to helping individuals, organizations, and societies flourish.

🌍 What happens when people committed to positive change come together to learn, question, experiment, and imagine new possibilities?

The Impact Innovation Course, hosted by the UPEACE Centre for Executive Education, brought a diverse community to our campus to explore how innovation can better serve people and the planet.

Through collaborative workshops, reflection, time in nature, and the exchange of experiences, participants engaged with systemic design, applied AI, conscious leadership, and peace and conflict analysis. Together, they explored new ways to understand complexity and turn ideas into meaningful action.

We are deeply grateful to Courtney Savie Lawrence, Faculty Lead and initiator of the course and Co-Lead of the United Nations C3 Labs, as well as to every faculty member and participant who contributed their knowledge, curiosity, and openness to this shared experience.

🌱 Environmental decisions affect livelihoods, communities, and fundamental rights.

The UPEACE Human Rights Centre's online course Environment, Development, and Human Rights explores how these areas intersect and what a rights-based approach to environmental protection and sustainable development can look like in practice.

Through readings, case studies, video materials, and interactive webinars, participants will examine climate change, international environmental law, structural inequalities, and the challenges faced by small island developing States.

The course is designed for professionals working in environmental protection, climate action, development, public policy, human rights, humanitarian work, and related fields.

🌿 Proteger un corredor biológico requiere conocer el territorio, pero también escuchar a quienes lo habitan, lo trabajan y lo cuidan.

La semana pasada, la Universidad para la Paz y Carta de la Tierra Internacional participaron en la creación del mapa vivo sistémico del Corredor Biológico Garcimuñoz.

El taller, organizado por el SINAC-MINAE, el Área de Conservación Central, la Universidad Nacional y la Universidad Técnica Nacional, reunió a representantes de las municipalidades de Alajuela y Mora, cámaras empresariales, organizaciones de la sociedad civil, la comunidad de Quitirrisí y otros sectores.

Este proceso participativo busca identificar formas de conectar y proteger mejor la biodiversidad y las áreas productivas del corredor, que se extiende desde el volcán Poás hasta la Zona Protectora El Rodeo.

Celebramos estos espacios de diálogo y colaboración, en los que la diversidad de conocimientos y experiencias contribuye a construir soluciones para el cuidado de nuestros territorios. 💚

There is something special about this moment between one academic year and the next.

As we prepare to welcome our new cohort next week, we find ourselves looking back at the joy, pride, and emotion of our most recent graduation ceremony.

🎶 Music has the power to bring people together across cultures, traditions, and differences.

UPEACE is proud to collaborate on the Concert for Peace, commemorating the 800th anniversary of the passing of St. Francis of Assisi and honoring his enduring message of peace, compassion, and fraternity.

Through music, culture, and dialogue, the concert will create a space for connection and reflection, reminding us of the values we share and the bridges we can continue building together.

You can study peace in a classroom. But some of its most important lessons begin when the person sitting across from you sees the world completely differently.

At UPEACE, students bring more than different nationalities to campus. They bring lived experiences, languages, histories and perspectives that challenge assumptions and change how problems are understood.

Diversity does not make every conversation easy. It makes those conversations necessary.

Here, learning happens through lectures and research, but also over shared meals, during group projects and in friendships that might never have formed anywhere else.

Because learning to build peace also means learning how to listen, connect and work across difference. 🌎💙
