Η σπουδαία κληρονομιά και το όνομά του θα παραμείνουν ζωντανά μέσα από το συνεχιζόμενο έργο των ιδρυμάτων που δημιούργησε στην Αθήνα (Wiener Laboratory of Archaeological Science at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens), την Κρήτη (ΙNSTAP Study Center for East Crete), και την Αμερική, στο Πανεπιστήμιο Cornell (The Malcolm H. Wiener Laboratory for Archaeological Science), και τη Φιλαδέλφεια (ΙNSTAP Academic Press).
Malcolm Wiener, a distinguished archaeologist, a great philanthropist and a major benefactor of Aegean archaeology and, more broadly, of Eastern Mediterranean archaeology, has passed away at the age of 91. For decades, Malcolm Wiener contributed enormously to the archaeological community not only through his valuable academic work, but also through his steadfast, unprecedented support for numerous excavations and research projects throughout Greece and beyond. The remarkable development of Aegean prehistoric archaeology in recent decades owes a great deal to his passion for our discipline and his unparalleled generosity. Countless research projects, excavations, conferences and scholarly publications were realised thanks to his vision and the unwavering support he provided. Although his own research interests centred on the Minoan and Mycenaean civilisations, his contribution extended across the entire Eastern Mediterranean, primarily through the establishment of the Institute of Aegean Prehistory (INSTAP), based in Philadelphia, USA. He also made a significant contribution to the archaeology of Cyprus, where he supported major excavations and research programmes, such as those at Pyla and Maroni. His great legacy and his name will live on through the ongoing work of the institutions he founded in Athens (the Wiener Laboratory of Archaeological Science at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens), Crete (the INSTAP Study Centre for East Crete), and in the USA, at Cornell University (The Malcolm H. Wiener Laboratory for Archaeological Science), and in Philadelphia (INSTAP Academic Press). We extend our sincere condolences to his family. Archaeologists in the Eastern Mediterranean will always remember him with love, gratitude and admiration.
