🌍🔬✨Visit of Professor Viktor G. Mihucz to Our Masaryk University🌍🔬✨
In December, we had the honor of welcoming Professor Viktor G. Mihucz from the Institute of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), to our institution. Professor Mihucz delivered a fascinating lecture on “Toxic and Potentially Toxic Components in Environmental Compartments and Food,” where he presented his latest research findings in the analysis of toxic elements.
Key topics of the lecture included:
- Analysis of arsenic (As) species in contaminated water, food, and dietary supplements, including their distribution in solid and liquid phases.
- Utilization of chromatographic and spectroscopic methods to study the transport processes of As species and their physiological effects on plants.
- Potential for reducing As content in rice during cooking and the transformation of As(III) to As(V) during the process.
- Investigation of antimony (Sb) and phthalate release from PET bottles, along with recommendations for safe mineral water storage.
- Correlation between heavy metal concentrations (e.g., Pb) in breast milk and potential risks for exclusively breastfed infants.
- Phytoremediation potential of poplar trees and cucumbers under exposure to heavy metals such as Cd, Pb, and Ni.
- Utilizing rare earth element (REE) concentration profiles in bio wines to select appropriate clarifying agents.
The visit was enriching not only from a scientific perspective but also as an opportunity to establish closer collaboration. We discussed potential student exchange programs and joint research projects in the fields of environmental chemistry and analytical methods.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Professor Mihucz for his inspiring visit and look forward to future collaborations!
