V knihkupectví Megabooks proběhl 21.4. inspirativní seminář vedený Terezou Pech na téma „Jak na angličtinu od 1. třídy“. Akce byla určena studentům pedagogické fakulty se zaměřením na 1. stupeň a nabídla praktické tipy, jak efektivně a hravě začít s výukou angličtiny u nejmladších žáků. Seminář byl velmi přínosný, plný konkrétních ukázek a nápadů, které mohou budoucí učitelé ihned využít ve své praxi.

Viktorie Hanišová – paths to literature and translation

Tereza Havránková and Gabriela Klečková presented their research at the TESOL 2026 International Convention and Expo in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States, in late March. With proposal acceptance rates ranging between 20 and 25%, the event offered a valuable platform for them to engage with an international audience of practitioners and researchers.

Tereza Havránková and Gabriela Klečková have just completed a five-day Erasmus+ job shadowing stay at the Department of Linguistics at the University of Utah. During the visit, they observed classes and met with Dr. MaryAnn Christison, Director of Graduate Studies, as well as with other faculty members and PhD students. The experience offered useful insight into higher education in the U.S. and provided inspiration for their own teaching and research.

The stay also created space for new professional contacts and opened up possibilities for future collaboration. Dr. Klečková gave a presentation on career pathways in the ELT profession, and both colleagues presented on ELT in the Czech Republic and on the teacher education programme at their home department.

Dr. Angela Thomas from Bowling Green State University joins us for a three-week appointment from the United States as a Fulbright Specialist at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen. During her time with us, she has been working with our faculty and students, sharing her expertise in literacy, teacher preparation, and innovative instructional practices.

Through her teaching, Dr. Thomas has led discussions, modeled effective strategies, and inspired both future and current educators to think deeply about their practice. Her sessions have focused on connecting theory to real classroom application, with a strong emphasis on supporting student learning across content areas.

We are grateful for her collaboration, professionalism, and the energy she brings to our academic community. It has been a truly enriching experience for our university, and we are thankful for this international partnership.

In the final week of February, our colleague Tereza Havránková presented at the international conference “Bridging Well-being and (Teacher) Education: A Globalised Perspective to Science Diplomacy” in New York, USA. Her talk focused on initiatives developed within the EUPeace Alliance that support the internationalisation of teacher education, including international teaching placements and the Wellbeing Journal for future teachers.

English Department Leadership Transition

After 15 years of dedicated leadership (2010-2025), Dr. Gabriela Klečková has concluded her tenure as Chair. We are deeply grateful for her commitment and the lasting impact she has made on our department and all of us. We are also pleased to announce the appointment of Doc. Eva Skopečková as our new Chair. While the transition of leadership often involves a literal and figurative "relocation of the seat," as illustrated in the picture, we are confident in the stability and continued growth of our department in the years to come.

Dne 11. 11. 2025 představila Západočeská univerzita v Plzni na slavnostním zasedání Vědecké rady ZČU v Měšťanské besedě nové profesory, profesorky, docenty a docentky. Jednou ze dvou nových docentek je také naše kolegyne Eva Skopečková.
