📢 You Are Invited to the D.A.R. Continuum – Conference on Data, AI, Automation & Robotisation!

On 29 April 2026, the CIIRC CTU will host the D.A.R. Continuum conference in Prague, a one-day interdisciplinary event exploring the evolving relationship between open & FAIR data, artificial intelligence, automation, and robotisation.

How are data infrastructures transforming research practices?
What happens when AI systems become integral to scientific discovery?
How should responsibility and governance evolve alongside autonomous systems?

D.A.R. Continuum brings together researchers, engineers, industry representatives, policymakers, and funding stakeholders to discuss these questions across disciplines.

How is the development of the electronics for our rocket going? 🚀

It's a long journey full of details, but we're happy to show you!

💡 It all starts with an idea - for example, we need to control a servo, throw a parachute or send data from the rocket. We turn ideas into a concept - a document detailing the module's functions, its parameters and how to achieve them. We will also determine how the module interacts with other parts of the rocket - from the power supply to the type of connectors.
📐 From concept to design - here we design the actual circuitry. We're deciding what components to use, how to connect them, and continually going back to the concept to refine everything. We use the open-source software KiCad for the design.
🛠 When the board is ready, production comes next. We order the PCBs from JLCPCB - for speed and good prices. Because we produce everything in small batches, we solder the boards by hand. How to do it? We apply solder paste over a template, fit the components with tweezers and then solder them in an infrared oven.
⚡ Then comes the recovery. First, we visually inspect the board and fix any short circuits. Then we connect it to the power supply and verify that everything is working as it should. Once the board is functional, we start programming the firmware.
🧑‍💻 We write the firmware primarily in C using the HAL libraries from STM. We thoroughly test every function to make sure the electronics can handle all the challenges.
📡 When everything is ready, there is only one thing left to do - fit the electronics into the rocket and send it to the stars! 🌟

Barrande Fellowship programme 2025

The French Institute in Prague and the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MSMT) are happy to announce the new launch of the Barrande Fellowship Programme 2025, the exchange mobility programme for Ph.D. students between the Czech Republic and France.

The programme offers scholarships to support “cotutelles” and short-term research stays. Students have to be registered either at a Czech University (for mobilities to France) or at a French University (for mobilities to the Czech Republic).

All scientific fields are welcome!

The application deadline is January 26th, 2025.

All information on the programme and the application process can be found in the application guidelines (for a cotutelle project and for a short research stay).

We are also organizing two online presentation events of the programme on November 26th, 2024.
