Welcome to CETE-P — Center for Environmental and Technology Ethics - Prague.

We explore the ethical questions emerging at the intersection of technology and environmental change — from artificial intelligence and new technologies to climate change, biodiversity and the Anthropocene. Our international team brings together philosophy, ethics and interdisciplinary research to understand today’s challenges and contribute to public debate.
We created this page to make our research more accessible and to open up our work to a wider audience. We believe that our ideas should not be shared only through academic publications and conferences, but also through conversations, interviews and accessible content here on Instagram.

Follow us for research, interviews, events, ideas and conversations on the ethics of technology, environment and our changing world.

Náš mezinárodní tým propojuje filozofii, etiku a interdisciplinární výzkum s cílem lépe porozumět současným výzvám a přispívat k veřejné debatě.

Sledujte naše novinky z výzkumu, rozhovory, akce, myšlenky a diskuse o etice technologií a životního prostředí v našem měnícím se světě.

💻Artificial intelligence is generating both enthusiasm and, increasingly, concern. Juraj Hvorecký of CETE-P commented on the reasons for regulating artificial intelligence, as well as its lack of boundaries and moral limits, on Czech Television’s *Události* news program (in Czech). Link in comments.

Důvody pro regulaci umělé inteligence vysvětluje v Událostech České televize etik Juraj Hvorecký z Centra pro environmentální a technologickou etiku – Praha/ Center for Environmental and Technology Ethics - Prague z Filosofického ústavu Akademie věd České republiky.

Don't miss these two interdisciplinary lectures from fields of physics, philosophy of mind, philosophy of science and scientific methodology:

💡How can an ontological interpretation of quantum theory, particularly Bohm and Hiley's pilot wave theory, reshape traditional approaches to philosophy of mind? You will find out at Paavo Pylkkänen's talk, called "Interactive Dual Aspect Monism: A View Inspired by Bohm's Interpretation of Quantum Theory".

👉When: 16 September 2026, 15:00
More info: https://cetep.eu/interactive-dual-aspect-monism-a-view-inspired-by-bohms-interpretation-of-quantum-theory/
***********************************************************************
💡How can the unificatory model of theoretical virtues (UM - a concise hierarchical framework for evaluating scientific theories) be illustrated through quantitative examples of the development of physical theories? Come to a talk by Avril Styrman, named "Unifying power as a quantitative criterion for fundamental physical theories" and learn more.

👉When: 16 September 2026, 16:00
More info: https://cetep.eu/unifying-power-as-a-quantitative-criterion-for-fundamental-physical-theories/

👉 Place of both talks: Academic Conference Center (AKC), Husova 4a, Prague 1

This lecture has been funded by a grant from the Programme Johannes Amos Comenius under the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic, CZ.02.01.01/00/23_025/0008711.

👉 We sincerely invite you to a lecture by Verdicchio, called "Critical Perspectives on Digital Art" 💻

🖌️How does the relationship between digital technology and artistic creation evolve, with focusing on AI-generated art?
🖌️How does the art experience change when tools for creating art change?

Mario Verdicchio, associate professor of Logic and Philosophy of Science at the University of Bergamo, will analyze contemporary machine learning alongside historical precedents and human experience with arts, based on his research background in AI ethics, philosophy of mind, computation and computer art.

👉When: 14 September 2026, 16:00
👉Where: Institute of Philosophy, Jilská 1, Prague 1, Seminar Room 124a
Public lecture, free entry.
https://cetep.eu/mario-verdicchio-critical-perspectives-on-digital-art/

The event is organized as part of the project Human-centred AI for a Sustainable and Adaptive Society (HumanAId, reg. no. CZ.02.01.01/00/23_025/0008691), implemented by the Institute of Philosophy CAS. The main objective of the project is to develop methodologies and tools that will enable the potential of large language models (LLMs) to be used in a way that is in line with the value and normative requirements of specific users in civil society and government.

https://cetep.eu/mario-verdicchio-critical-perspectives-on-digital-art/
