In 2026, the Institute of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Wrocław celebrates the 80th anniversary of its establishment. This jubilee provides an opportunity to reflect on the history of ethnology and cultural anthropology in Wrocław, as well as to acknowledge all those individuals and institutions that have contributed to its development over the past decades. We would also like to express our sincere gratitude for our collaboration and inspiring encounters.
The anniversary celebrations will take place on 28–29 May 2026 in Wrocław.
On 28 May, an anniversary meeting entitled "Wrocław Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology: Eight Decades of History" will be held at the Oratorium Marianum of the University of Wrocław. The program includes presentations devoted to the history and present-day activities of the Institute, as well as the presentation of an anniversary volume, an exhibition, and a textile project prepared for the occasion.
On 29 May, an academic symposium entitled "Ethnicity – Memory – Transformation: Eighty Years of Wroclaw Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology" will focus on three key areas of contemporary anthropological research: transformation, ethnicity and nationalism, and the politics of memory.
