EDUCATION MIGRATION; The KEY to PERMANENT RESIDENCE IN EUROPE.
If you would like to settle in Germany for an indefinite period and you are are a national of a third country education migration should be your best option to consider.
Let me break this down for you; Normally as a Bachelor student, Germany will give you a seven (7) to eight (8) academic semester to complete your degree program. A semester is usually a six-month-long period and that means a twelve-month (12) month period for two (2) academic semesters. So logically one would require a minimum of three years and six months (3.1/2yrs) to a maximum of four years (4yrs) to complete a bachelor degree program. And for a Master's degree program, four to six academic semesters (2-3years) also apply to complete a degree program respectively.
If you have been in Germany for five years and have been in possession of a residence title, you have a right to an EC long-term residence permit (see: "Studying and Working in Germany", pages 33 et seq.), subject to certain preconditions. This permit is largely equivalent to the settlement permit (section 9a of the German Residence Act).
Proving to have had a residence permit for five years, a settlement permit can already be issued after shorter periods in the following cases:
* Graduates of a German higher education institution have a right to a settlement permit after two years subject to certain preconditions (section 18b of the German Residence Act), see: "Studying and Working in Germany", pages 34 et seq.
* Subject to certain preconditions, such as if while still studying a student have received a specific job offer, as foreigners they may even immediately receive an indefinite settlement permit (section 19 of the German Residence Act),: see: "Studying and Working in Germany", page 35.
THE ADVANTAGE:
If Constitutionally; as a third-country national, you are entitled to a settlement permit (According to the section 9 of the German Residence Act) and you have had a residence permit for five years and satisfy the further statutory preconditions during your studies as above "Studying and Working in Germany", pages 32 et seq.), the advantage you already have here is that during your study days you may have and possibly almost accumulated the legally required years to enable you apply for the permanent residence, WHY? is because after a degree program in Germany, you will usually automatically get an extra 18months (1yr, 6months) as a period to find a job and get employed in one's field of study which in most cases it is rare for graduates to search for jobs as a lot of students already get employed even before the end of their studies. The logic is to add up the given 18months to the three and a half to four years (3.1/2 -4yrs) used for your bachelor degree completion or to the three years (3yrs) used for your Master degree completion, then you will either almost arrive at five years or even overdue to apply for the permanent residence, so the 18months residence extension would more or less count as a bonus for you.
