This week a multiplier event took place in Aizkraukle, Latvia. The key-librarian Ramona writes about the event:
"On June 11, an educational and informative popularization event of the Erasmus+ strategic partnership project “Digital Competences and Information Literacy for Librarians” (NEDLib) was organized at the Aizkraukle Regional Central Library as part of the methodological day for librarians of the Aizkraukle Regional Library, inviting a total of 35 colleagues from the region.
During the meeting, key-librarian Ramona Ukrina introduced the library staff to the experience gained, challenges and opportunities during the implementation of the project, the project goals, its progress, the developed methodological materials and their use in work, the implemented activities, and the possibilities of using online sources.
The practical learning outcomes – activities were organized with great enthusiasm by colleagues – heads of structural units, who had mastered the learning material in February, thus now sharing their experience and providing a small insight into both the theoretical basis of the acquired knowledge and its practical application in activities: interactive games and discussions on recognizing disinformation, evaluating images created by artificial intelligence and the importance of critical thinking using various digital tools, as well as educational games. In parallel, the issues of media literacy, disinformation and the influence of social networks were emphasized, and the role of libraries in the era of modern digital opportunities – the benefits and concerns, the need and opportunities for developing critical thinking – were discussed.
A colleague from the Pļaviņa library shared her impressions of participating in the summer school organized within the project in Bucharest, Romania, emphasizing the importance of international experience in supplementing and acquiring knowledge.
In conclusion, we concluded that the most significant benefits of the project are the prepared theoretical and practical material base, which would undoubtedly serve as support for the daily work of libraries in the field of media and information literacy, as well as the availability of various new learning resources with the possibility of adapting them to visitor groups of all ages."
