Master History & Economics

Master History & Economics The new Master at the University of Bayreuth which combines the two perspectives of historians and economists. Why are some Nations rich and others poor?

Economic history addresses a wide range of questions: What are the underlying reasons for economic growth? What explains economic crises and recovery? What is capitalism? Has it always functioned the same way? When did it come into existence? The master’s programme History & Economics provides students with tools and approaches from History and Economics to discuss those questions (and many more)

– using an interdisciplinary approach that combines the best of two perspectives. Learn more about our programme at: http://www.he.uni-bayreuth.de/

The P&E page regularly posts profiles of the "Faces" known in their course of studies. Of course, this gentleman's face is also well-known to all the History & Economics students.

The Faces of P&E with Prof. Jan Otmar Hesse, Professor of Economic and Social History.

"Together with a strong team, I brought Economic History to Bayreuth, when I joined the university in 2015. I taught economic history in Frankfurt, Goettingen and Bielefeld before. In Bayreuth, I had the unique opportunity to set up a MA-programme that combines History&Economics and is modelled after the PE-success story. The subject uses historical data and sources to review economic models. We are interested in long-term transformation processes of modern capitalism. I am also interested in the history of economics as a discipline and regularly offer classes in that field, spanning from Adam Smith to John M. Keynes and beyond. Though being part of the History-group in our faculty, my classes are highly frequented by PE-students. I am looking forward to meeting you."
