🏥 Moving to Germany for your MBA&E Life Science Management studies? Here’s what international students should know about health insurance.

Health insurance is mandatory for all students in Germany — and you’ll need proof of coverage for both your student visa application and your university enrollment.

For most international students under 30, public student health insurance is the most common option, offering comprehensive coverage at a reduced student rate. Private insurance may also be possible depending on your age, study status, or country of origin.

What does German health insurance usually cover?
✔ Doctor visits
✔ Hospital treatment
✔ Prescription medication
✔ Emergency care
✔ Preventive healthcare services

At , many of our international students experience Germany’s healthcare system for the first time while building their careers in Berlin’s biotech and healthcare ecosystem. Understanding how the system works early can make your transition to student life much smoother. 🌍🧬

💼 Looking to financially support your studies in Germany? Here are the 3 most common options for international students 👇

Whether you want to gain industry experience in biotech and pharma, build your network, or support your studies financially, Germany offers several flexible work opportunities for students.

🔬 Internship (Praktikum)
Perfect for gaining hands-on industry experience. Internships can be mandatory or voluntary and are often directly related to your studies. Depending on the type and duration, they may be paid or unpaid. International students generally follow the same work regulations as other student jobs.

📊 Working Student (Werkstudent)
A popular option for students seeking long-term professional experience while studying. Working students are usually limited to 20 hours per week during the semester to maintain student status and receive social security benefits. Many students use Werkstudent roles to enter the biotech, pharma, consulting, and healthcare industries before graduation.

💡 Minijob
Minijobs are flexible part-time jobs with a monthly income limit of €603/month in 2026. They offer tax and social security advantages, making them ideal for students looking for extra income alongside their studies.

🌍 One of the advantages of studying in Berlin is the access to opportunities across startups, research institutes, global pharma companies, and healthcare organizations. At LSM, many students combine their studies with professional experience—helping them build careers even before graduation. 🚀

What entails in the elusive world of life science consulting? 🧬

In an inspiring talk led by Diana Stukalkina, Healthcare Analyst at Bioscience Valuation, hosted by ISPE SC Berlin, LSM students explored how to transition from a scientific background into consulting, where scientific expertise can be transformed into strategic insights that shape decisions across biotech and pharma.

This is the advantage of studying in Berlin: a city where industry events, global organizations, and career opportunities are always within reach.

At the MBA & Engineering in Life Science Management, our students don’t just learn about career paths—they experience them firsthand through events, networking, and community involvement.
