Unfortunately, we have to inform you that the MA Intellectual Encounters of the Islamicate World will be terminated on December 31, 2019. Therefore, the team will also cease to post news and announcements on this page.

The past seven years have been an incredible journey through virtual teaching, intellectual history and intercultural encounters. We had the honor to work with the most renowned scholars from all over the world - the oldest one being around 80 when he started to learn about online didactics. The majority of the 91 participants who decided to embark on this journey with us were from countries in the Near and Middle East that do not always entertain friendly relationships with each other. There could have been many reasons for these individuals not to join our program. Still they did so - looking for scientific knowledge, mutual understanding and personal contacts. It wasn't all gold, it wasn't all perfect. But the program proved for seven years that bringing people together can change perceptions and initiate change.

Eventually, we have found so many new friends. Thank you!

Become a Fellow at the National Humanities Center!

The National Humanities Center will offer up to 40 residential fellowships for advanced study in the humanities for the period September 2020 through May 2021.

The Center annually welcomes forty scholars from all fields of the humanities for semester- or year-long residential fellowships.

Summer school at the University of Hamburg on Islamicate Digital Humanities!

The summer course is for graduate (MA and PhD) students and researchers who work with manuscript materials in Arabic script and want to learn how to apply digital technology in their research.
