We are delighted to announce that Hannah Scott Deuchar’s (EUME Fellow of the AvH 2025-27) book »Translate and Rule: Justice, Arabic Literature, and the Colonial Archive« has been published with Stanford University Press.

Translate and Rule argues that translation played a central role not only in colonial lawmaking, but also in anticolonial Arabic thought.
