Did you guess it? 👀

That tangle of servos, wires and 3D-printed brackets is FollowCam, a camera rig that films you with nobody holding the camera. Set it up, start moving, and it physically pans and tilts to keep you in the shot.

Here's the part that matters: our students built it from scratch at the CODE Hackathon that closed out Kick-Off Week. No brief, no manual, just "what if the tripod followed you?", a whiteboard, and one very long night of code, wiring and 3D printing.

This is what "learning by doing" actually looks like. Not a lecture about robotics or computer vision, a real, working thing you can stand in front of, days into the semester.

And they're not stopping there: what you're seeing is v1. The FollowCam crew is still building — now focused on the software side to make it track even smarter.

Class of 2026, you did it. 🎓

On September 18, we celebrated our Bachelor's graduates and, for the first time in CODE's history, our very first Master's cohort. A night we'd been working toward for years.

These Digital Pioneers learned by doing from day one. Along the way they built real products and launched companies. We couldn't be prouder of every single one of them. 💚

Thank you to CODE board member Judith Dada for a commencement speech our graduates won't forget, to smartvillage for hosting us, and to our moderators Antonia Wittrin and Felix C. Holtkamp. And to our Student Experience, Events, Campus and Marketing teams: you brought the night to life.

Everyone celebrates the result. The trophy. The finished product. The five clean minutes on stage.

But that's never where the thing actually gets built.

Swipe past the pitch and here's the real story: a huddle in the hallway, four laptops around one table, three people staring down the same bug, someone half-asleep on the couch and still typing. This is our Hackathon — a working product, built in a single day — but it could be almost anything.

Because this is the shape of every real achievement. A startup. A degree. A career. From the outside, a clean highlight. From the inside, a messy middle held together by people who kept going before it worked.

The result is what you show. The process is what you become.

So whatever you're building right now: the messy middle isn't a sign you're failing. It's the sign you're doing it right.

Gorillas went from zero to unicorn in 9 months. Last week, one of the people who built it sat down with our students.

Kağan Sümer, co-founder of Gorillas, was a guest in David Matthaei’s “How to Start a Startup” class at CODE University.

We started at the very beginning: how the idea came up and how Gorillas got its first customers. From there we talked about what made the extreme growth possible in the first place, and what the sale to Getir looked like from the inside.

The last part was about what Kağan is building now. With nutz.inc he is rethinking the Rocket Internet model for 2026, with AI at the core of how new companies get built.

For students who are about to start their own companies, it makes a real difference to hear this first hand from someone who has been through all of it, including the hard parts.

One day. One room. A lot of caffeine. 💻

The CODE Hackathon closed out the week: a morning kickoff, heads down building all day, and pitches by night. New Pioneers shipping something real alongside people they'd met barely 72 hours earlier, which is exactly the point.

This is how week one ends at CODE. Not with a lecture, with a demo.

Congrats to everyone who built and pitched, and to our winning team. 🏆

This was just the first week. Now imagine the semester. 🚀
