MASTERENTWURF UND VERTIEFUNG MIT EXKURSION NACH CHINA

Das ISU bietet im Sommersemester 2026 einen Masterentwurf mit Vertiefung zu einem Projektareal in Niedersachsen an – kombiniert mit einer 10-tägigen Exkursion nach Shanghai und Qingdao während der Exkursionswoche (22.–31.05.2026). Entwurf, Vertiefung und Exkursion sind inhaltlich eng miteinander verknüpft und bauen systematisch aufeinander auf.
Weitere Informationen zu Themen, Ablauf, Kosten und Zeitplan der Exkursion folgen Ende Januar.

UCFL Days 2025. A fantastic milestone for our first year!

Two weeks ago, the entire Urban Climate Future Lab (UCFL) team came together for our first UCFL Days, joined by our International Advisory Board members.

It was an inspiring event full of exchange and reflection. From the impulse talk by .tumubweinee to lively poster sessions where our PhD researchers shared their work and received constructive feedback from our IAB.

Your thoughtful recommendations will guide us into the next phase of UCFL as we strengthen inter- and transdisciplinary collaboration across our projects.

ISU sucht eine/n HiWi zur Unterstützung in der Forschung – Jetzt bewerben!

Wir freuen uns über eine selbstständige, organisierte und zuverlässige Arbeitsweise. Wir suchen eine/n Bewerber/in mit ausgeprägtem Forschungshintergrund sowie guten Deutsch- und Englischkenntnissen. Insbesondere sind wir auf der Suche nach deinen besonderen Fähigkeiten in der (Online-) Recherche, insbesondere in der Nutzung von wissenschaftlichen Datenbanken, der Text- und Datensammlung, -verarbeitung und -analyse, der Forschungsdokumentation. Du wirst auch an der Vorbereitung und Durchführung von Nutzendenstudien beteiligt sein und uns bei der Erstellung von Berichten und wissenschaftlichen Publikationen unterstützen.

Du findest bei uns ein freundliches und offenes Arbeitsumfeld.

Die Arbeitszeiten werden mit rd. 13-14€ pro Stunde vergütet (20 Stunden pro Monat).

ISU is looking for a HiWi to support our research – Apply now!

We welcome an independent, organized and reliable work attitude. We are seeking a candidate with strong research skills/background and a proficient knowledge of German and English. We are looking for your special skills in (online) desk-research, particularly the use of academic databases, text and data collection, processing and analysis, the documentation of research work. You will also be involved in the preparation and conducting of user studies and assisting in drafting reports and research papers.

We offer you a friendly and open working environment. The working hours are compensated with about 13-14€ per hour (20 hours per month).

Open positions at the Urban Climate Future Lab (UCFL):

The SpACE Lab at ISU (Institute for Sustainable Urbanism), TU Braunschweig, is looking for a postdoctoral researcher from Urban Design, Architecture, Planning, Participation research, or related; the focus is on overall project coordination.

The Institute of Sustainability Psychology, Leuphana University Lüneburg, is looking for a doctoral researcher in Sustainability Sciences and Psychology; focus on cognitive and behavioural responses to climate change in urban contexts.

The Institute of Open Space Planning and Design, Leibniz University Hannover, is looking for a doctoral researcher in Landscape Architecture and Planning. The focus is on the analysis of the climate impact of different types of urban open spaces.

The Institute for Building Climatology and Energy of Architecture, TU Braunschweig, is looking for a doctoral researcher to identify emissions, resources and operational requirements in urban structures incl. buildings, in order to model transformation effects and substitution potentials.

The ARL – Academy for Territorial Development in the Leibniz Association is looking for a doctoral researcher in Transformative Governance-research and climate change, with a background in methods of social science.

More doctoral positions will be available e.g., at the Helmholtz-Zentrum hereon GmbH, Climate Service Center Germany (GERICS) and others, which will advertise their openings shortly.

Entdecken Sie die Entwürfe des ISU Urban Design Studio für einen Stadtteil in der Magdeburger Innenstadt.

Im Laufe der Geschichte wurde Magdeburg verschiedentlich geprägt – von der kaiserlichen Metropole über die Industriestadt, den Wiederaufbau nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg bis zur Landeshauptstadt von Sachsen-Anhalt. Seit der Wiedervereinigung konnte ein rapider Prozess der Deindustrialisierung beobachtet werden. Große, meist ehemalige Industrieareale, wie zum Beispiel im Hafen, liegen seit 30 Jahren brach. Dennoch gibt es im Stadtzentrum erste Nachverdichtungsprojekte. Die Stadt Magdeburg beschäftigt sich dabei auch mit der möglichen Nachverdichtung des Erbes des sozialistischen Städtebaus. In diesem Kontext haben Architekturstudierende im Rahmen eines kooperativen städtebaulichen Entwurfsstudios am Institute for Sustainable Urbanism (ISU) der TU Braunschweig Visionen und städtebauliche Strategien für ein Quartier in der Magdeburger Innenstadt entwickelt.

Explore design projects of the ISU Urban Design Studio for a district in Magdeburg’s city centre.

Over the course of its history, Magdeburg has undergone many transformations – from an imperial metropolis to an industrial city, through post-war reconstruction to the capital of the German state of Saxony-Anhalt. Since reunification, a rapid process of deindustrialisation has taken place. Large, mostly former industrial areas, such as the port, have been abandoned for 30 years. Nevertheless, in the city centre the first infill projects are underway. The city of Magdeburg is also looking into the possibility of redensifying the legacy of socialist urban development. As part of a cooperative urban planning design studio, architecture students from the Institute for Sustainable Urbanism at TU Braunschweig have developed visions and urban development strategies for a district in Magdeburg’s city centre.
