GESIS Training

GESIS Training GESIS Training offers a wide range of events, especially training courses in social research methods Since 2007 GESIS has merged into one institute.

GESIS – Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences
The Foundation for Excellence

GESIS – Leibniz-Institute for the Social Sciences is currently the largest infrastructure institution for the Social Sciences in Germany. With more than 300 employees in two locations (Mannheim and Cologne), GESIS renders substantial, nationally and internationally relevant research-based infrastructure services. Esta

blished in 1986 as the publicly funded German Social Science Infrastructure Services, GESIS consisted of three independent institutes, "Social Science Information Centre" (IZ) in Bonn, "Central Archive for Empirical Social Research" (ZA) in Cologne, and "Centre for Survey Research and Methodology" (ZUMA) in Mannheim. In November 2008 GESIS has assumed the name addition "Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences" to emphasize its membership to the Leibniz Association. GESIS Trainings
GESIS offers a wide range of events, especially training courses in social research methods, that develop participants’ applied research methods skills in depth and in breadth covering the whole survey life cycle. They impart advanced knowledge and practice-oriented skills in the area of social research methods for national and international researchers. 💻 Your commute? Just a few clicks.

Online course on – join from wherever you are.

Curious about complex interactions between individuals? 🧐

Join Daniel Mayerhoffer to learn how to simulate these interactions and their outcomes using and other languages.

🎯 Learning objectives
By the end of the course, you will:

✅ Be able to conceptualize common types of ABMs and implement them in NetLogo.
✅ Understand and apply all major NetLogo commands.
✅ Know the fundamentals of implementing ABMs independent of programming language.
✅ Use large language models as “collaborators” for defining and refining ABM concepts and implement these concepts in the programming language of your choice.
✅ Critically evaluate your own and others' ABMs in terms of internal and external validity.
✅ Identify potential use cases of ABMs in your research settings.
✅ Have a first version of your own ABM ready to be analyzed for a future research paper.

phases begin on Day 2, giving participants the opportunity to apply their learning in a collaborative, hands-on project throughout the remainder of the course.
