We wish the students all the best for their final presentations next Wednesday!

Today our students have delivered the outcomes of the Mundus Urbano local workshop at the School of Architecture of UIC Barcelona.

Groups were researching and selecting case studies that respond as closely as possible to the disaster type and/or geographic locations the group has been assigned. The research focused on finding building typologies often not specific to particular disaster types, but designed as prototypical and adaptable to varying site and geographic conditions.

Each group presented their disaster research, case study analysis, and critique in a digital presentation. The MICSEA Coordinators are Carmen Mendoza Arroyo and Farzana Gandhi (NYIT School of Architecture & Design) together with Cristina del Biaggio (Université Grenoble-Alpes) and, as juror, Nuria Gasulla (Generalitat de Catalunya) and Kathrin Golda-pongratz (UIC).

THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR SUCH GREAT WORK!!

"Has ‘Heimat’ been Made?: Centralized Refugee Accommodations in Germany. "
by Vijay Gopal Vazhoth Palliyil

‘Heimat’ is a German word with no literal, direct translation in English. It is “more than home and not only an architectural but a mental situation” (Plane-Site, 2017).

The blog post shows photo stories and snippets of Vijay's master's thesis about the temporary housing Gemeinschaftsunterkünft 'collective accommodation facilities' for refugees and asylum seekers at Hofheim am Taunus in Hessen, Germany.
