🎬 Filmvorführung und Gespräch mit Regisseur Oier Plaza in Ingolstadt

Im Rahmen von cinEScultura #04 zeigt das Centro Español de Ingolstadt den Dokumentarfilm „Popel – Cenizas“ (Asche) des baskischen Regisseurs Oier Plaza.

Der Film erzählt die außergewöhnliche Geschichte von František Suchý und seinem Sohn, die während der nationalsozialistischen Besatzung Prags ihr Leben riskierten, um die Asche von mehr als 2.000 hingerichteten politischen Gefangenen zu identifizieren und heimlich zu bewahren. Unter den Opfern befanden sich auch deportierte Spanier wie Anjel Lekuona und Enric Moner.

Der Dokumentarfilm verbindet Fragen von Erinnerung, Identität und historischer Aufarbeitung mit der Suche der Familien nach den Menschen, deren Spuren das NS-Regime auslöschen wollte. Eine besondere Verbindung zu Bayern besteht über Hradischko, ein Außenlager des Konzentrationslagers Flossenbürg.

Im Anschluss an die Vorführung findet ein Gespräch mit Regisseur Oier Plaza statt, der eigens aus Bilbao nach Ingolstadt reist und Einblicke in die Recherche und Entstehung des Films geben wird.

Mujeres migrantes venezolanas por el mundo y sus prácticas de (des)localización

Del 23 al 25 de junio de 2027 tendrán lugar en la Katholische Universität Eichstätt-Ingolstadt unas jornadas internacionales dedicadas a las experiencias de mujeres migrantes venezolanas y a las relaciones entre migración, género y espacio.

Las jornadas se proponen analizar cómo las prácticas de las migrantes producen, transforman y resignifican los lugares de origen y destino, así como las relaciones e identidades de género.

We are pleased to welcome Flávio Morgado to ZILAS – Center for Latin American Studies at the Katholische Universität Eichstätt-Ingolstadt (KU) for a research stay from September 2026 to January 2027.
Flávio Morgado is a PhD candidate in Political History at the Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ – PPGH), supported by a FAPERJ scholarship and supervised by Prof. Dr. Eduardo Ferraz Felippe. Alongside his academic work, he is also a visual artist, curator and poet, bringing together historical research and artistic practice in his engagement with archives, memory and political conflict.
His doctoral dissertation, “Insurgent Archive: Memory, Erasure and Symbolic Dispute in Brazilian Contemporary Art,” examines how contemporary Brazilian artists — including Rosângela Rennó, Rosana Paulino and Aline Motta — mobilize archives not as neutral repositories of the past, but as spaces in which memory is produced, erased, contested and reconfigured.
At the center of his research is the concept of the “insurgent archive”: an approach to understanding archival practices as sites of aesthetic, historical and political struggle. His work explores how artistic interventions can challenge established narratives, make visible forms of silencing and erasure, and open new ways of engaging with contested histories.
During his stay at ZILAS, funded by the PDSE/CAPES programme, Morgado will further develop this concept in dialogue with international debates on political memory, authoritarianism and transitional justice. The research stay will also contribute to an additional chapter of his dissertation devoted to a historical and historiographical discussion of the concept of the insurgent archive.
At KU, his research is supervised by Prof. Dr. Miriam Lay Brander and Prof. Dr. Nina Schneider.

Solidaridad con Buenaventura | Aufruf zur Unterstützung

Desde ZILAS nos sumamos al llamado de nuestras organizaciones aliadas, colegas y actores de la sociedad civil en Colombia para apoyar a las comunidades afectadas por el terremoto del 10 de agosto en Buenaventura y en el Pacífico colombiano.

Las imágenes que recibimos desde el territorio muestran la magnitud de los daños en viviendas, espacios comunitarios e infraestructura. Pero esta emergencia golpea además a comunidades que desde hace años enfrentan desigualdades estructurales, desplazamientos, violencia y enormes dificultades de acceso a servicios y protección.

Por eso queremos hacer un llamado especialmente a nuestra comunidad universitaria, investigadores/as, instituciones académicas, organizaciones sociales y redes vinculadas con América Latina: hoy podemos convertir nuestra solidaridad en apoyo concreto.

La Corporación Memoria y Paz, junto con la Facultad de Ciencias Sociales de la Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, ha creado una campaña para apoyar directamente a familias, líderes y lideresas de procesos comunitarios y populares afectados por el terremoto.

🎓 CMP in Buenaventura: Besuch bei der Casa Social, Cultural y Memoria

Fast genau ein Jahr nach der feierlichen Verleihung des Shalompreises 2025 an die Casa Social, Cultural y Memoria hatten zwei Studierende des internationalen Masterstudiengangs Conflict, Memory and Peace (CMP) die Gelegenheit, die Arbeit der Organisation in Buenaventura, Kolumbien, vor Ort kennenzulernen.

Marvin Castro Banguera, der den Preis im vergangenen Jahr gemeinsam mit Carmen Rocío Murillo in Eichstätt entgegengenommen hatte, führte die Studierenden durch die Casa. Dabei vermittelte er ihnen tiefe Einblicke in die Geschichte der Organisation sowie in ihre Erinnerungs- und Friedensarbeit.

Mit dem inzwischen in Kolumbien eingetroffenen Preisgeld werden unter anderem Wandgemälde gestaltet und instand gehalten, die Kapelle des Gedenkens – das Herzstück der Casa – unterstützt und die psychosoziale Begleitung des Teams finanziert.

Während ihres Aufenthalts lernten die Studierenden nicht nur das stark vom Hafenbetrieb geprägte Zentrum Buenaventuras kennen, sondern besuchten auch verschiedene Stadtviertel und ein Naturschutzgebiet im ländlichen Raum. Die Herausforderungen der Stadt unmittelbar zu erleben und mit Menschen ins Gespräch zu kommen, die sich vor Ort für Frieden, Erinnerung und gesellschaftliche Veränderung engagieren, war eine besonders wertvolle Erfahrung.

ZILAS bei tv.ingolstadt: 40 Jahre Lateinamerikastudien im Gespräch

Anlässlich seines 40-jährigen Jubiläums war das Zentralinstitut für Lateinamerikastudien (ZILAS) zu Gast in der Sendung Nachgefragt bei tv.ingolstadt.

Im Gespräch mit Moderatorin Michelle Milewski gibt Prof. Dr. Miriam Lay Brander, Direktorin des ZILAS, Einblicke in die Arbeit und Entwicklung des Instituts. Seit vier Jahrzehnten bündelt das ZILAS die interdisziplinäre Lateinamerikaforschung an der KU und bringt unterschiedliche Fachperspektiven zusammen – von Literatur und Geschichte über Geographie und Politikwissenschaft bis hin zur Sozialen Arbeit.

Prof. Dr. Nina Schneider, Co-Direktorin des ZILAS und Leiterin des Masterstudiengangs Conflict, Memory and Peace, stellt zudem den binationalen Studiengang vor, der die Katholische Universität Eichstätt-Ingolstadt mit der Universidad del Rosario in Bogotá verbindet. Der Master verbindet Friedens- und Konfliktforschung mit Fragen von Erinnerung und Vergangenheitsaufarbeitung und ermöglicht den Studierenden, in Deutschland und Kolumbien zu studieren.

Das Gespräch bietet damit einen Einblick in die Geschichte des ZILAS, seine gegenwärtigen Aufgaben und die Bedeutung der Zusammenarbeit zwischen Deutschland und Lateinamerika für Forschung und Lehre.

From CMP to doctoral research

The M.A. Conflict, Memory and Peace (CMP) offers strong foundations for students who wish to pursue advanced research in peace and conflict studies.

A recent example is Katharina Danisch, who completed the CMP Master’s program in Eichstätt and Bogotá. She will soon develop a doctoral project with a scholarship at the Graduate Center for the Study of Culture (GCSC) at Justus Liebig University Giessen.

Before starting this new academic stage, she will also participate in the Transformation Summer Camp at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt, taking place from 20–25 September.

Her trajectory shows how the CMP’s binational and research-oriented profile prepares students for future academic work on conflict, memory, peace, and social transformation. Other CMP graduates are also currently applying for doctoral scholarships, further highlighting the program’s potential as a bridge toward research careers.
