The idea that policy innovation flows mainly from the Global North to the Global South is one of the biggest myths in global governance.

The new open access book by Achim Kemmerling, Hasnain Bokhari, and Luicy Pedroza challenges that assumption.

By examining case studies on Latin America, Africa, and Asia, the volume demonstrates how the Global North frequently adopts solutions from the Global South but rarely acknowledges them.

What do academics in Germany think about the state of academic freedom right now?

For their Capstone project, MPP students interviewed academics and turned their results into best-practice guidelines for protecting academic freedom in the social sciences, which they presented at the Berlin office of .

🔎 One key finding: 81% of participants reported feeling completely or mostly free to develop and pursue their own research. However, 77% said that conditions have changed in recent years—and not for the better.

How is development aid changing in today's shifting global landscape? 🌍

This semester, the Brandt School joined Central European University for the joint course "The Politics and Policies of Aid", combining online learning with an intensive seminar week in Vienna.

Together with an international group of students, faculty and guest speakers explored some of the most pressing debates in development policy today — from global inequalities and geopolitical rivalries to the future of international cooperation.

A big thank you to all students, colleagues, and partners who made this collaborative teaching format such a rewarding experience!
