Merry Christmas – happy winner of a Christmas tree!

With more than 60 guests, students from SEDev celebrated with their mentors and friends the Holiday Season. With mulled wine, waffles, homemade cookies as well as music and tinker everyone enjoyed a flair of Christmas. The decorated Christmas tree was won (through lottery) by our mentor Katharina and her student Laura from Colombia. It now adorns her flat at the dorms.

Merry Christmas, Seasons Greetings, and Happy Holidays to all of you!

Our students participated in the Intercultural and Diversity Day at Europa-Universität Flensburg on Tuesday. After a Kaleidoscope Parade from the University of Applied Science to Campus, they celebrated with “Windows to the World” the Intercultural Diversity, where international students offered a great variety of food from their home countries, presented clothes and typical items as well as music!

Happy to share the culmination of our EEM 2022-2024 batch's month-long research on Transition Pathways for Decarbonisation and Self-Sufficiency on the Isle of Eigg.
Our study delves into the success factors behind the island's pioneering renewable power minigrid, established in 2007. 🌟 Employing a diverse methodology, we engaged in group discussions, interviews, surveys, and community events to glean invaluable insights. Additionally, our students rolled up their sleeves, participating in beach clean-ups and electric installations. On 21st February, we proudly presented our findings and shared our digital report with the community. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the community for their generosity and hospitality throughout this enriching experience. We also acknowledge the financial support from DAAD, without which this project wouldn't have been possible.

This year, our team embarked on an incredible journey to the breathtaking Isle of Eigg in Scotland for International Classroom ! 🏝️✨

Eigg isn't just any island—it's a beacon of sustainability! Over 90% of its electricity demand is met from Renewable Energy sources, thanks to a pioneering hybrid mini-grid. This innovative grid, a trailblazer since 2007, combines micro-hydro, wind, solar PV, batteries, and backup diesel gensets. 🌊☀️💡

Teaming up with the Isle of Eigg Heritage Trust, the Uni-Flensburg's IC2024 crew is venturing into new frontiers of sustainability. Together, we're crafting a net-zero strategy for the island, with a keen focus on seamlessly integrating heating, cooking, and transport into Eigg's energy system through innovation and collaboration. 🔄⚡
