Nach intensiven Wochen voller Organisation, Workshops und Diskussionen rund um unser diesjähriges Thema „Practicing Urban Junctures“ ist es Zeit für den krönenden Abschluss des XII. Viadrinicum! Wir haben gemeinsam mit Teilnehmer*innen aus aller Welt erforscht, wie kooperatives Handeln die Stadt zu einem Gemeingut machen kann , nun wollen wir diese kollektive Energie direkt auf die Tanzfläche bringen. Diesen Samstag, den 29. August, laden wir euch ab 22 Uhr zur Abschlussparty „FutureLab Sounds“ ins Stuck (Lindenstraße 7) ein. Lasst uns zusammen die offizielle Einweihung der brandneuen Bar feiern und auf die inspirierende Zeit der Projektarbeit anstoßen. Für die passenden Beats sorgt in dieser Nacht DJ Orbrex. Kommt vorbei, trefft die internationalen Teilnehmer*innen sowie das Team und lasst uns diese besondere Summer School gebührend ausklingen lassen!

After intense weeks of organization, workshops, and discussions exploring this year’s theme, “Practicing Urban Junctures,” it’s time for the grand finale of the XII. Viadrinicum! We’ve spent the summer school investigating modes of cooperative action that claim the city as a common good, and now it’s time to bring that collective energy straight to the dance floor. This Saturday, August 29th, we invite you to our huge closing party, “FutureLab Sounds,” starting at 10 PM at Stuck (Lindenstraße 7). Let’s celebrate the official inauguration of the brand-new bar together and raise a glass to the wonderful weeks of collaborative project work. DJ Orbrex will provide the perfect soundtrack for the night. Join us, meet the international participants and the team, and let’s give this amazing Summer School the epic send-off it deserves!

Das große Finale des XII. Viadrinicum rückt näher! ✨ Nach spannenden Wochen, in denen Teilnehmer*innen aus über 16 Ländern, von Brasilien über Marokko bis zur Ukraine, in unserer Doppelstadt Frankfurt (Oder)-Słubice zusammenkamen, um die Stadt als Gemeingut zu erforschen, laden wir euch diesen Samstag, den 29. August, um 16:00 Uhr zur Vernissage in die Logenstr. 4 ein. Das Doc.Lab, Makers.Lab und Planners.Lab präsentieren die kreativen Ergebnisse ihrer partizipativen Stadtinterventionen und zeigen, was im aktiven Dialog zwischen Wissenschaft, Kunst und Zivilgesellschaft entstehen kann. Zudem könnt ihr eine faszinierende Ausstellung der Kunstwerke aus dem Cyanotypie-Workshop bewundern. Als besonderes Highlight feiern wir am Abend gemeinsam die offizielle Einweihung der neuen Bar im Stuck! Kommt vorbei, lasst euch inspirieren und stoßt mit uns auf einen großartigen Abschluss an. The grand finale of the XII. Viadrinicum is almost here! ✨ After exciting weeks of bringing together participants from over 16 countries, from Brazil and Morocco to Ukraine, in our twin city Frankfurt (Oder)-Słubice to explore the city as a common good, we warmly invite you to our Vernissage this Saturday, August 29th, at 16:00 PM at Logenstr. 4. The Doc.Lab, Makers.Lab, and Planners.Lab will present the creative results of their participatory urban interventions, showcasing what emerges from the dialogue between academia, the arts, and civil society. You can also explore a beautiful exhibition of artworks created during our cyanotype workshop. Open Air Kino-Zeit beim Viadrinicum! 🎬🌙 In Vorfreude auf das filmPOLSKA Festival zeigen wir in Kooperation mit dem Polnischen Institut Berlin den Horror-Thriller „Cisza nocna / Night Silence“ (PL 2024, OmeU).
Worum geht’s? Opa Lucjan zieht in ein scheinbar idyllisches Seniorenheim. Doch nächtliche Visionen und mysteriöse Todesfälle führen ihn auf die Spur einer dunklen Macht im Keller des Hauses. Ein packender Film über die Angst vor dem Tod, und tragischerweise der letzte Auftritt des großartigen Maciej Damięcki.

Open Air Cinema night at Viadrinicum! 🎬🌙 In anticipation of the filmPOLSKA festival and in collaboration with the Polish Institute Berlin, we are screening the horror-thriller „Cisza nocna / Night Silence“ (PL 2024, with English subtitles).
What’s it about? Grandpa Lucjan moves into a seemingly idyllic retirement home. But nightmarish visions and mysterious deaths lead him to uncover a dark power lurking in the basement. A thrilling film exploring the fear of death, and tragically, the final performance of the great actor Maciej Damięcki.

Gemeinsam Stadt neu denken: Vom 16. bis 30. August beschäftigen sich 32 internationale Studierende, Forschende, Aktivist*innen und Künstler*innen bei der Viadrinicum - Summer School mit Fragen zu kooperativer Stadtentwicklung. Unter dem Titel „Practicing Urban Junctures. Cooperative City and Its Social Bearings“ diskutieren sie unter anderem solidarische Wohnformen, urbane Fürsorge und städtischen Gemeingütern und entwickeln eigene Projekte in den Bereichen Dokumentarfilm, Urbanismus und Stadtplanung. Die Teilnehmenden kommen aus Brasilien, Kanada, Georgien, Indien, Marokko, Moldau, Polen, der Ukraine, Ungarn, den USA und Deutschland.
Auf dem Campus an der Logenstraße entsteht gemeinsam mit lokalen Initiativen ein offener Begegnungsraum. Interessierte aus Frankfurt (Oder) und Słubice sind herzlich eingeladen, mit den Teilnehmenden ins Gespräch zu kommen, Stadtmöbel zu bauen, Filme zu schauen und gemeinsam zu kochen. Kommt vorbei und werdet kreativ!

Rethinking the city together: From 16 to 30 August, 32 international students, researchers, activists and artists will explore questions of cooperative urban development at the Viadrinicum Summer School. Under the title “Practicing Urban Junctures. Cooperative City and Its Social Bearings”, they will discuss topics including solidarity-based housing, urban care and urban commons, and develop their own projects in the fields of documentary film, urbanism and urban planning. The participants come from Brazil, Canada, Georgia, India, Morocco, Moldova, Poland, Ukraine, Hungary, the United States and Germany.
Together with local initiatives, an open space for meeting and exchange is being created on the campus on Logenstraße. People from Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice are warmly invited to meet the participants, build urban furniture, watch films and cook together.

Die Viadrina-Sommerschule Viadrinicum widmet sich dieses Jahr der Stadt als umkämpftem Gemeingut. Und tatsächlich erzählt auch dieser Gruselthriller, zwischen Seniorenheim, Keller und dunklen Geheimnissen, ganz nebenbei von Zugehörigkeit, Fürsorge und der Frage, wer in der Stadt eigentlich noch Platz hat.

Viele der jungen Spieler, wie der 17-jährige Asad oder Thomas aus Sierra Leone, sind aus ihren Heimatländern geflohen und kämpfen mit Jobsuche, Akzeptanz und ihrer Vergangenheit. Für viele ist Eichi Vaterfigur, doch er blickt auf eine düstere Zeit als Rechtsextremist zurück

Changing Sides

Thomas “Eichi” Eichstädt coaches the football team FC Pio in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Many of the young players, such as 17-year-old Asad or Thomas from Sierra Leone, have fled their home countries and struggle with job hunting, acceptance, and their pasts. For many, Eichi is a father figure, but he looks back on a dark period as a right-wing extremist.

Cyanotypie, auch Blaudruck genannt, ist ein historisches fotografisches Verfahren aus dem 19. Jahrhundert. Die Technik ist einfach zu erlernen und ermöglicht kreative Experimente ganz ohne Dunkelkammer.

Im Workshop lernen die Teilnehmenden die Grundlagen der Cyanotypie kennen und setzen eigene Motive auf lichtempfindlich beschichtetes Papier um. Dafür können digitale Fotografien, Pflanzen oder andere Objekte als Vorlage dienen. Die digitalen Fotos müssen bis zum 19. August vorab an [email protected] als hochauflösende JPEG Dateien eingesendet werden.

Unter der Leitung von dem Fotographiker Roman Boichuk werden die Vorlagen gemeinsam vorbereitet, um danach das Papier zu belichten und zu beobachten, wie durch das Sonnenlicht nach und nach ein Bild entsteht. Anschließend werden die belichteten Papiere ausgewaschen. Dabei entwickelt sich das charakteristische intensive Blau der Cyanotypie.

Die Teilnehmenden erhalten einen praktischen Einblick in ein historisches fotografisches Verfahren und können eigene fotografische und experimentelle Arbeiten gestalten. Die im Workshop entstandenen Drucke werden am 29. August gemeinsam in einer Ausstellung präsentiert. Anschließend können die eigenen Arbeiten mit nach Hause genommen werden.

Cyanotype is a historical photographic process from the 19th century. The technique is easy to learn and allows for creative experiments, entirely without the need for a darkroom.

In the workshop, participants will learn the basics of cyanotype and transfer their own motifs onto light-sensitized paper. Digital photographs, plants, or other objects can serve as templates for this. Digital photos must be submitted in advance to [email protected] as high-resolution JPEG files by August 19th.

Under the direction of photographer Roman Boichuk, the templates will be prepared together before exposing the paper and observing how an image gradually emerges in the sunlight. Afterward, the exposed papers are washed. During this process, the characteristic intense blue of the cyanotype develops.
