Academy of Visual Arts, Frankfurt

Academy of Visual Arts, Frankfurt Frankfurter Akademie für Kommunikation und Design // WE ARE
the Academy of Visual Arts, Frankfurt. This makes us unique in the German university landscape.

As a state-recognized institution, we practice interconnected working across the classical disciplinary boundaries. Together with artists, humanities scholars, computer scientists, architects and natural scientists, our students work on aesthetic, philosophical and technological issues and develop innovative design solutions.

»COMMUNICATION DESIGN« STUDY PROGRAM
The eight-semester full-time stud

y program focuses on the application of communication design in the fields of Textiles and Fashion, Law and Politics, Art and Culture, and Society and Social Affairs. We combine teaching with research tasks and develop new fields of application for communication design in the context of social issues. OUR DIDACTIC GOAL
is the formation of communicatively oriented designers who, through the teaching and development of scientific, technical and design skills, see themselves as critically reflective »authors« in socially relevant communication processes. DEGREE
The bilingual study program concludes with a state examination. For graduates, career entry is correspondingly diverse: In addition to the classic fields of employment in agencies, publishing houses and media companies, there are promising opportunities in institutional leadership positions in culture, art and media work, as well as at the municipal, federal or EU level. OUR HISTORY
began in 1957, when the painter and graphic artist Carlo Ruppert founded the Westend Art School, which later became the "Academy of Visual Arts, Frankfurt". Modeled after the Bauhaus, the Academy has established itself both nationally and internationally. In close cooperation with partners from culture and business, it has since been making a fundamental contribution to the growing importance of design.
