Researchers in are unveiling the Hidden Secrets of Sunspot’s penumbra

The formation of sunspot's penumbra, a fascinating phenomenon on the Sun's surface, has long intrigued scientists. Thanks to cutting-edge instruments installed at the GREGOR telescope like the improved High-resolution Fast Imager (HiFI+) and the GREGOR Infrared Spectrograph (GRIS), we will be able t...

Powerful flares, breathtaking views across the solar poles, and a curious solar ‘hedgehog’ are amongst the haul of spectacular images, movies and data returned by Solar Orbiter from its first close approach to the Sun. Although the analysis of the new dataset has only just started, it is already...

Leibniz-Institute for Solar Physics is pleased to announce the launch of the Science Data Centre (SDC) to host large data volumes from ground-based solar telescopes. The first phase of the SDC is dedicated to the data generated by the German solar observatory in Tenerife Canary Islands. The long-term plan includes further development of the service platform for solar data from other large solar telescopes. By consolidating solar data on one platform of SDC, research in data science and using tools of Big Data analytics and artificial intelligence will become possible.
