The Erasmus Mundus Master’s Programme "Euroculture - Society, politics and culture in a global context" partly financed by the European Commission is a transdisciplinary, international and inter-university project, in which various disciplines, eight well-known European and four non-EU universities participate. Its aim is to prepare graduates from Europe and third-countries for professions and res

earch areas in which knowledge of present-day Europe and European Union institutions are of relevance. The focus of the Programme is on regional, national and supranational dimensions of the European democratic development. It pays special attention to the increasing mobility of its citizens, to migration and transcultural exchanges. Because of the multidisciplinary studies approach, the Euroculture programme stands out from many other European Regional Studies programmes. Ever since the establishment of the Programme in 1999, Euroculture was used as a concept to reflect in an interdisciplinary way on the many different expressions and manifestations of self-understandings of societies, social groups and individuals of, about, within and beyond Europe.

We mourn the passing of Péter Nádas (1942–2026), one of Hungary’s most renowned contemporary writers.

In 2011, Nádas was a guest at the European Studies Intensive Programme hosted by the University of Göttingen. Together with Swedish writer and journalist Richard Swartz, he took part in a public conversation on Europe, “Europa im Zwiegespräch,” moderated by Katharina Raabe and co-hosted by the Literarische Zentrum.

The conversation was later published in the proceedings of the Intensive Programme, Europe – Space for Transcultural Existence? (Studies in Euroculture, Vol. 1, 2013), published by Göttingen University Press.

Göttingen University researchers have contributed to the latest issue of Jusur magazine. The articles in the magazine look at words as keepers of cultural memory and bridges between traditions.

Prof. Sebastian Günther served as guest editor, working with the editorial team in Milan to coordinate most of the academic articles from an international team of authors.

Prof. Annette Zgoll contributed a piece unpicking key concepts in ancient cuneiform cultures using new methods developed right here in Göttingen.

Dear Euroculture Göttingen community, students, and alumni,
After wrapping up a fantastic Intensive Programme (IP) in Groningen, I wanted to share some thoughts on what makes our network so unique and resilient. From the lively face-to-face debates to the wonderful energy at Career Day and the alumni get-together, it is clear that the "Euroculture effect" never truly expires.
In this article, I also share a direct challenge to our current cohorts and alumni to actively bring your reflections into the light, pop the "Euroculture bubble," and use your voices to shape the dialogues the outside world needs to hear.
You can read the full text on The Euroculturer here: https://euroculturer.eu/2026/07/15/the-enduring-threads-of-euroculture-mobility-responsibility-and-the-power-of-our-network/
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and seeing your contributions! Arwed
