🌱 Roots, Research & Resilience in Halle (Saale)! 🇩🇪🌍

This week, researchers, farmers, and practitioners from Germany, Tunisia, Morocco, Sudan, and the UAE came together in Halle (Saale) to celebrate the 2026 International Year of the Woman Farmer.

Organized by the Arab-German Young Academy of Sciences and Humanities (AGYA), together with Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and the project “Super Food from Saxony-Anhalt,” the three-day workshop “Empowering Rural Women through Climate-adapted and Gluten-free Crops” brought science, farming, food, and community together. 🌾

From greenhouse and soil-lab visits to farm tours, food tastings, scientific exchanges, and a hands-on cooking workshop, participants explored how climate-resilient crops and women’s knowledge can help shape more sustainable and diverse food systems.

🌍 Arab expertise in heat-, drought-, and salt-tolerant crops met 🇩🇪 German expertise in food processing, quality, and product development — creating new opportunities for collaboration and learning across regions.

🥣 And the exchange will continue beyond Halle: participants are jointly developing a trilingual cookbook in Arabic, English, and German, bringing together gluten-free and pseudocereal recipes and the knowledge behind them.

Here’s to women farmers, researchers, and innovators growing the food of the future — together. 🌱🤝
