Dear FIT ALUMNI in Bachelor and Master programmes,

In the FIT Christmas and New Year newsletters, you have already received a SAVE-THE-DATE for an important event for alumni and alumnae. Today we would like to invite you again in a special and more detailed way:

FIT GOES ON.
FIT lives on, in you, the alumni and alumnae of Bachelor's and Master's programmes from 13 years of the University. Even though the campus will close on 20 September 2025 with the big graduation party (please come in large numbers), we firmly believe that the spirit of FIT will live on. Because the real FIT is you, all the people who have lived, learned and shaped life here over the years! We professors firmly believe that you are making a difference wherever you are today, and that you are putting into practice what you have learned at FIT.

But what happens when the campus and the university are suddenly gone? How will we all stay connected? How can we continue to strengthen and learn from each other? What would a FIT alumni network look like? What should it achieve? Can we, as professors, contribute to this, or can we stand by your side in this community in a brotherly and sisterly way? We invite you to reflect on these questions together.

In the very first year of FIT, Steve Ogedegbe was one of the bachelor students in Intercultural Theology. Together with the professor, who was the last to join the FIT team, Johannes Weth, he runs an intercultural conference centre. Himmelsfels is located in the middle of Germany, in Spangenberg in northern Hesse. People from all over the world come together here and work for a growing intercultural fellowship in Germany even beyond the time of the FIT. The Himmelsfels Community would like to make a gift to all alumni for the time after the closure of FIT. The Himmelsfels community invites us to their guest house to come together and reflect on how we can stay connected beyond the time of the campus in Hermannsburg.

Two dates have already been announced, and you can sign up directly for the one that suits you best. Participation is completely free of charge for you.

FIT INVITES TO THE PUBLIC INAUGURAL LECTURE
BY PROF. DR. JOHANNES WETH

Professor Johannes Weth has held the Chair of Systematic Theology in Intercultural Perspective at FIT since October 2022. The graduate theologian, ordained pastor of the Protestant church and freelance artist with a degree in Fine Arts and Painting is involved in several intercultural projects and initiatives. Furthermore Weth is founding member of the ecumenical Werner Pfetzing Foundation Himmelsfels in Spangenberg, North Hesse. Since 2007 he has been involved in the intercultural, interdenominational and ecumenical learning and living community at Himmelsfels as chairman of the board, theologian, artist and fellow resident.

Professor Weth shows how theology, intercultural commitment and art can form a dynamic alliance.

Drawing on his academic and practical influences Weth dedicates his inaugural lecture to the following topic:

"The Communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all." (2 Cor 13:14)
Reflections on a Phenomenology and a Criteriology of the Experience of the Holy Spirit – or, in other words: How Intercultural Theology and Practice Could be Understood in a New Way

Am Ende des Wintersemesters 2022/23 sind fünf Studierende der FIT nach ihrem Langzeitpraktikum auf den Campus zurückgekehrt und haben öffentlich von ihren Erlebnissen und Erfahrungen berichtet. In diesem Jahr haben sich alle Studierenden für ein Praktikum in Deutschland entschieden, gleichwohl aber in sehr unterschiedlichen Settings und mit globalem Bezug. So vielfältig die Engagements der Studierenden auch waren, haben sie alle in ihrem Praktikum prägende Erfahrungen und wichtige Erkenntnisse für die Zeit nach ihrem Studium an der FIT sammeln können

INTERNSHIP OF FIT STUDENTS:
DIVERSE - GLOBAL - LOCAL

At the end of the winter semester 2022/23, five students of FIT returned to the campus after their long-term internship and publicly reported on their experiences and findings. This year, all students chose to do an internship in Germany, but nonetheless in very different settings and with global reference. As varied as the students' commitments were, they all gained important experiences and helpful insights during their internship for the time after their studies at FIT.

ANTRITTSVORLESUNG VON PROFESSORIN KLEINE VENNEKATE AN DER FIT

Seit dem 01.04.2022 hat Frau Professorin Dr. Katharina Kleine Vennekate an der Fachhochschule für Interkulturelle Theologie Hermannsburg (FIT) den Lehrstuhl für ´Praktische Theologie mit einem Fokus auf Diakonie in interkultureller Perspektive` inne. Am 31.01.2023 hat sie vor den Lehrenden, Mitarbeitenden und Studierenden der FIT sowie vor Angehörigen und Gästen nun ihre Antrittsvorlesung gehalten. Das Thema der Antrittsvorlesung lautete: „Menschen mit Traumaerfahrungen als Aufgabe interkultureller Seelsorge in Kirchengemeinden“.

Nach der Antrittsvorlesung bedankte ich Rektor Professor Dr. Andreas Kunz-Lübcke im Namen des gesamten Teams bei Professorin Kleine Vennekate für ihr großes Engagement für die FIT als Lehrende, Prodekanin für Verwaltungsangelegenheiten und geschätzte Kollegin. Auch die Studierenden - vertreten durch die MA-Studierende Seoyeon Han - würdigten ihr Engagement und überreichten ihr einen Blumenstrauß.

Nach fast zwei Semestern an der FIT zieht Professorin Kleine Vennekate folgendes Resumee: "Die Arbeit an der FIT und die Gemeinschaft sowie der Austausch mit den Studierenden, Kolleginnen und Kollegen machen mir sehr viel Freude".

INAUGURAL LECTURE BY PROFESSOR KLEINE VENNEKATE AT FIT

Since 01.04.2022, Professor Dr. Katharina Kleine Vennekate has held the chair of ´Practical Theology with a focus on diakonia in an intercultural perspective` at the University of Applied Sciences for Intercultural Theology Hermannsburg (FIT). On Jan. 31, 2023, she delivered her inaugural lecture to FIT faculty, staff and students, as well as to family members and guests. The topic of the inaugural lecture was "Supporting traumatized migrants as a task of intercultural pastoral care in church communities“.

After the lecture, on behalf of the entire team, Rector Professor Dr. Andreas Kunz-Lübcke thanked Professor Kleine Vennekate for her great commitment to FIT as a teacher, Vice Dean for Administrative Affairs and appreciated colleague. The students - represented by MA student Seoyeon Han - also recognized her dedication to the university and presented her with a bouquet of flowers.

After almost two semesters at FIT, Professor Dr. Kleine Vennekate sums up as follows: "My work at FIT and the community as well as the exchange with students and colleagues give me a lot of pleasure".

NEW YEAR GREETINGS FROM FIT

Dear students, alumni, staff, friends and supporters of FIT,

the figure in the photo has the title "Angel of Freedom". For good reason, this angel adorns the picture for FIT's New Year's greeting. We all wish for nothing more than freedom and peace in Ukraine, but also in the no less terrible war zones on all continents of the world. At the same time, we are aware that peace and freedom cannot be taken for granted, but are precious goods that must be preserved. We, who were able to experience Christmas and the turn of the year here in peace and freedom, must and should be all the more grateful and humble.

FIT wishes all of you a happy 2023 with health, joy and fulfillment in your studies and daily work as much as well-being for you and your families. It may also succeed to find peace and good prospects for the future in the current crisis regions.

NEUJAHRSGRUSS DER FIT

Liebe Studierende, Alumni, Mitarbeitende, Freunde und Unterstützer der FIT,

die Figur auf dem Foto hat den Titel "Engel der Freiheit". Aus gutem Grund ziert dieser Engel das Bild zum Neujahrsgruß der FIT. Wir alle wünschen uns gerade jetzt, da Krieg auch in Europa herrscht, wohl nichts sehnlicher, als dass Freiheit und Frieden in der Ukraine, aber auch in den nicht minder erschütternden Kriegsgebieten auf allen Kontinenten dieser Welt, einkehren möge. Zugleich wird uns bewusst, dass Friede und Feiheit nicht selbstverständlich sind, sondern kostbare Güter, die es zu bewahren gilt. Umso dankbarer und demütiger sollten wir, die wir das Weihnachtsfest und den Jahreswechsel hier in Frieden und Freiheit erleben durften, sein.

Die FIT wünscht Ihnen und Euch allen ein glückliches Jahr 2023 mit Gesundheit, Freude und Erfüllung im Studium und bei der täglichen Arbeit sowie Wohlergehen für Sie und Euch wie auch für Ihre und Eure Familien. Möge es gelingen, auch für die aktuellen Krisenregionen Frieden und gute Perspektiven für die Zukunft zu finden.
