Caucasus studies, also known as Caucasiology, is a regional science concerning language, culture, living and history of Caucasus related ethnic groups. Why Caucasus studies? The Caucasus geographical region is not just a natural border, but has also been a cultural bridge between Europe and Asia for hundreds of years. In this historic conflict area the region has become a contact room melting pot characterized by the coexistence of religions such as Christianity and Islam, as well as significant ethnic, lingual, and cultural diversity. This distinctive cultural blending calls out for unique researches to participate in a regional science that is willing to identify transnational, transcultural, and transconfessional processes. Last week, Prof. Dr. Emil Aslan (Charles University of Prague) visited the University of Jena in the framework of Erasmus Staff Mobility Programme.

During the visit, Prof. Aslan delivered a lecture at the Institute for Caucasus Studies on youth radicalization in Dagestan, followed by a pleasant get-together with members of the Institute.

A second lecture, jointly organized by the Institute for Caucasus Studies and the Institute for Political Sciences, focused on the current security and conflict trends in the Caucasus.

We would like to sincerely thank Prof. Aslan for the valuable contributions, and we look forward to future cooperation.

"Who owns resilience? EU blueprints and local realities in the South Caucasus" edited by Bidzina Lebanidze and Tiffany Williams and published in East European Politics Symposium is now fully online!

The idea of symposium was born during the Jena-Cauc 1.0 project conference on resilience in Tbilisi in November 2023. The symposium critically examines how the EU resilience turn and demonstrates the difference between the expectations and approaches from Brussels on the one hand, and its interpretation on the ground and local struggles, on the other hand.

Congratulations to the authors (Aron Buzogany, Laure Delcour, Margherita Gobbat, Fabienne Bossuyt and Laura Luciani) and editors on the successful publication!
