Das Archiv ist eine Sammelstelle von Nachlässen und Materialien, zugleich eine Forschungseinrichtung, die Forschungsarbeiten durchführt und organisiert.

Die Tätigkeit des Sozialwissenschaftlichen Archivs Konstanz wird von zwei Aufgaben bestimmt: Einerseits ist das Archiv eine Sammelstelle von Nachlässen und Materialien und andererseits zugleich eine Forschungseinrichtung, die mit diesen Materialien thematisch verbundene Forschungsarbeiten organisiert und durchführt. Das Archiv ist bemüht, die Nachlässe emigrierter deutschsprachiger Sozialwissenschaftler im Original oder in Kopie zu erwerben, um theoriegeschichtlich wichtige Ideenwanderungen festzuhalten. Den Grundstock dieser Sammlung bilden Nachlässe aus dem Kreis um die New School for Social Research in New York. Seit seiner Entstehung konzentriert das Archiv die Forschungen auf vier thematische Bereiche:

1. Beiträge zur Ideen- und Dogmengeschichte der Sozialwissenschaften

2. Erforschung der sozialwissenschaftlichen Emigration nach 1933s

3. Rekonstruktion und Ausarbeitung zentraler Konzepte der soziologischen Handlungstheorie

4. Forschungsprojekte und Kolloquien

Call for Papers: Ilse Schutz Memorial Prize 2027

The $1,000 Ilse Schutz Memorial Prize is now accepting submissions from junior scholars working in phenomenology and interpretive social science.

Eligibility: Graduate and PhD students, as well as faculty members who have not yet reached the rank of Associate Professor

Submission: Full paper in English, anonymized for blind review

🏆 The prize will be presented at the 8th Conference of the International Alfred Schutz Circle for Phenomenology and Interpretive Social Science, at Toyo University, Japan, March 9–11, 2027.
