We’re pleased to share a new publication co-authored by Anne-Marie Elbe.

The study, based on data from over 800 European athletes, explores how athletes’ personal values relate to the official “Spirit of Sport” values promoted in anti-doping education. While values such as fun, joy and respect were rated as most important, principles like fair play and excellence—although structurally central within the value network—were less strongly endorsed as personal priorities. The findings highlight a key challenge for values-based anti-doping education: sport values may not automatically resonate with athletes’ own value systems, which has important implications for doping prevention strategies.
