ITK Internationaler Trainerkurs Leipzig

Alle Lehrveranstaltungen werden dabei in vier Sprachen gedolmetscht – englisch, französisch, arabisch und spanisch.

Der Internationale Trainerkurs (ITK) ist ein Weiterbildungsstudium für Trainer:innen und Sportlehrer:innen aus Entwicklungsländern an der Universität Leipzig und gefördert vom Auswärtigen Amt und Freistaat Sachsen (SWMK). Die Sportwissenschaftliche Fakultät der Universität Leipzig organisiert Internationale Weiterbildungskurse für Trainer:innen und Sportlehrer:innen aus Entwicklungsländern. Geförd

ert werden die Kurse vom Auswärtigen Amt der Bundesrepublik Deutschland und seit 2021 zusätzlich vom Land Sachsen über das Sächsische Staatsministerium für Wissenschaft, Kultur und Tourismus. Ebenso wird den Teilnehmenden eine umfassende Betreuung geboten. Fünf Monate dauern die Internationalen Trainerkurse (ITK). Anschließend kehren die Teilnehmer:innen in ihre Heimatländer zurück. The Sports Science Faculty of the University of Leipzig organizes International Coaching Courses of further education for coaches and teachers of physical education from developing countries. The courses are funded by the Federal Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany. In addition, the Saxon State Ministry of Science, Cultural Affairs and Tourism has been funding ITK since 2021. All classes of the course are being translated into four languages – English, French, Arabic and Spanish. Moreover we offer the participants a comprehensive support. The International Coaching Courses (ITK) have a duration of 5 months. Afterwards the students return to their home countries. With this they offer perspectives in sports and also transfer their acquired knowledge to other people.

Workshop on empowerment of women successfully conducted in India 🚀

End of February 2026, our ITK alumnus Dr. Umakant Singh from India conducted a 2-day

National Workshop on the Empowerment of Women to Employability through Sports.

The workshop focused on promoting sports as a pathway for empowerment, leadership development and career opportunities for young women. Over the two days, several activities were conducted, among others:
Lectures on Olympic values and gender equality in sports; sessions on career opportunities and employability through sports, interactive discussions, presentations by students, practical session on sports instrumentation and skill development, teambuilding, workshops etc.

🇩🇪 🇮🇳 Our ITK Project Manager, Dr. Anton Behrens, contributed to the opening ceremony of the workshop with a speech of welcome, thereby underlining the continuous connection of our ITK alumnus and ITK ambassador Dr. Umakant Singh, who participated in an ITK course in 2013/14. 🇮🇳 🇩🇪

The program witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, and resource persons. The initiative successfully encouraged young women to view sports not only as a competitive field but also as a powerful medium for building confidence and career advancement.

Thanks to Dr. Umakant Singh for his untiring efforts in the field of sports and in spreading the word about ITK. 💐

🏀 What an incredible event!
The International Basketball Leadership Training (IBLT) in Berlin brought together 20 participants from around the world to learn from each other and build a strong global network. Our alumnus Adán took part and gained valuable experiences! 💪 The program combined leadership training with practical Sport for Development sessions and highlighted how basketball can promote education, empowerment, and social cohesion. Hello Everyone ! I’m Adán Escobar, ITK alumni from El Salvador. Today I want to tell you a little about PROPOSE A PROJECT, a FIBA Foundation Initiative that aims to support projects around the world that uses Basketball For Good In Their communities. If you have a Basketball For Good project or idea, you can participate to win mentoring, visibility, materials and even grants for your initiative!

Personally, I have been greatly supported by this initiative, which I have found amazingly compatible with the ITK vision and learnings.

I have been able to win economical support, mentoring experiences and basketballs that, combined with the knowledge gained through ITK, have allowed me to develop projects in benefit of the youth of El Salvador !

I encourage you to submit your idea on the PROPOSE A PROJECT PORTAL ! Let’s make the world better through basketball ! Let’s go !
