Mainzin Johannes Gutenberg -yliopiston Pohjois-Euroopan ja Baltian maiden kielten laitos SNEB tuomitsee yksiselitteisesti Venäjän hyökkäyksen Ukrainaan ja Putinin hallinnon hyökkäyksen oikeuttamiseksi levittämän disinformaation.

Seisomme ukrainalaisten ja venäläisten ja kaikkien muiden eri kansallisuuksiin kuuluvien ihmisten rinnalla, jotka vastustavat Putinin hallinnon aloittamaa hyökkäyssotaa Ukrainassa ja tuomitsevat sen lähtökohtaisen epäoikeudenmukaisuuden.

Ilmaisemme myös solidaarisuutemme kaikkia niitä akateemisia instituutioita kohtaan, joiden työhön Putinin ja hänen kannattajiensa aggressio vaikuttaa.

Tunnemme velvollisuudeksemme ilmaista mielipiteemme sen vuoksi, että ainelaitoksemme humanistinen tehtävä on edistää rauhan ylläpitämistä ja rakentamista monikielisten ja kulttuurisesti monimuotoisten kansojen kesken, mahdollistaa ja edistää yhteistyötä opetuksen ja tutkimuksen saralla sekä edistää ja suojella maailman kielellistä ja yhteiskunnallista monimuotoisuutta.

Jokainen julkisesti esitetty Putinin hallinnon hyökkäyksen tuomitseminen auttaa omalta osaltaan viemään Eurooppaa askeleen pois sodasta kohti kylmän sodan loppumisesta alkaen ja torstaihin 24.2.2022 asti vallinneen rauhan palauttamista.

Mēs, Maincas Johannesa Gūtenberga universitātes Ziemeļeiropas un Baltijas valstu valodu katedra, stingri nosodām Krievijas uzbrukumu Ukrainai, kā arī Putina režīma izplatīto dezinformāciju, ar kuru tiek mēģināts šo uzbrukumu attaisnot.

Mēs esam kopā ar ukraiņiem, krieviem un visiem, kuri nevēlas šo karu, kuri redz un nosoda tā radīto netaisnību.

Tāpat mēs solidarizējamies ar akadēmiskajām institūcijām, kuru darbību ietekmē Putina un viņa atbalstītāju agresija.

Tas ir mūsu pienākums darīt zināmu savu viedokli, jo mūsu institūta misija ir veicināt un uzturēt mieru starp daudzvalodīgām un kultūras ziņā atšķirīgām tautām, sekmēt to sadarbību, kā arī aizsargāt lingvistisko dažādību.

Ikviena institūcija, kas nosoda Putina rīcību un atklāti nostājas pret viņu, palīdz Eiropai spert soli tuvāk miera atjaunošanai, soli tuvāk mieram, kas valdīja kopš Aukstā kara beigām līdz 2022. gada 24. februārim.

Mes, Šiaurės Europos ir Baltijos šalių kalbų tyrimų ir mokymo katedra Johanneso Gutenbergo universitete Maince, vienareikšmiškai smerkiame Rusijos agresiją prieš Ukrainą ir šį išpuolį pateisinančią Putino režimo skleidžiamą dezinformaciją. Mes esame ukrainieč(i)ų, rus(i)ų ir visų, kurie nenori šio karo ir mato bei smerkia jo neteisybę, pusėje.

Taip pat reiškiame savo solidarumą su tomis akademinėmis institucijomis, kurių veiklą paveikė Putino ir jo šalininkų agresija. Jaučiame pareigą pasisakyti, nes mūsų katedros ir mūsų kaip humanitar(i)ų misija yra prisidėti prie taikos tarp įvairiakalbių ir kultūriškai skirtingų tautų palaikymo ir kūrimo tam, kad būtų sudarytos bendradarbiavimo galimybės ir būtų apsaugota kalbų, kultūrų ir socialinė įvairovė.

Kiekvienas pareiškimas, smerkiantis Putino veiksmus ir atvirai pasisakantis prieš jį, padeda Europai vienu žingsniu priartėti prie taikos atkūrimo. Taikos, kuri nenutrūkstamai mus lydėjo nuo Šaltojo karo iki šio ketvirtadienio, 2022 m. vasario 24 d.

The Department of Northern European and the Baltic Languages SNEB at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz hereby unequivocally condemns Russia's attack on Ukraine and the disinformation spread by Putin's regime to justify the attack.

We stand firmly on the side of the Ukrainians and all those Russian citizens and everyone else who does not want this war and sees and condemns its injustice.

We hereby also express our solidarity with the academic institutions whose work is being affected by the aggression of Putin and his supporters.

We feel compelled to speak out because it is the mission of our institute, and our mission as humanists, to contribute to the maintenance and building of peace among multilingual and culturally diverse peoples, to enable and promote collaboration, and to protect and promote linguistic, cultural, and societal diversity.

Every single instance that publicly condemns Putin's actions and speaks out openly against him helps bring Europe one step closer to restoring the peace that reigned since the Cold War until Thursday, February 24th, 2022.

Слава Украïні! Glory to Ukraine! Glory to all the people who are now not keeping silent but are openly standing with the Ukrainians in their brave defence of their country and the democratic and peaceful world order!

Der Forschungs- und Lehrbereich Sprachen Nordeuropas und des Baltikums an der Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz bezieht hiermit Stellung, dass wir klar den Angriff Russlands auf die Ukraine verurteilen und damit auch die von Putins Regime verbreitete Desinformation, mit der der Angriff begründet wird.

Wir stehen auf der Seite der UkrainerInnen und RussInnen sowie aller anderen, die diesen Krieg nicht wollen und sein Unrecht sehen und verurteilen.

Wir drücken hiermit auch den akademischen Institutionen unsere Solidarität aus, deren Arbeit durch die Aggression Putins und seiner Anhänger beeinträchtigt wird.

Wir fühlen uns verpflichtet, uns dazu zu äußern, weil es die Aufgabe unseres Instituts und unsere Aufgabe als HumanistInnen ist, zur Wahrung und Schaffung des Friedens unter verschiedensprachigen und kulturell unterschiedlichen Völkern beizutragen, um Zusammenarbeit zu ermöglichen und voranzutreiben und die linguistische und gesellschaftliche Vielfalt zu schützen.

Jede einzelne Instanz, die Putins Taten verurteilt und sich offen gegen ihn ausspricht, trägt dazu bei, Europa der Wiederherstellung des Friedens, der seit dem Kalten Krieg bis Donnerstag 24. Februar 2022 geherrscht hat, wieder einen Schritt näher zu bringen.

This is really great news. Anneli Sarhimaa, the initiator and coordinator-in-chief of ELDIA, Professor of North European and Baltic languages at the University of Mainz, is one of this year’s awardees of the prestigious Kordelin prize. Each year, the Alfred Kordelin foundation awards four 30,000 € prizes to persons with outstanding achievements in research and arts. The foundation credits Anneli for her "widesighted and analytic work which has greatly promoted the research on minority languages in Northern Europe". “ABČ. STEP TOWARDS”
A step towards what? The first letters of the Karelian alphabet in the title of the book refer to finding answers to how the severely endangered Karelian language could be restored as a family language for children to learn in the Republic of Karelia and in Finland. Two Karelian NGOs on both sides of the Russian-Finnish border - the Home of the Karelian Language in Vieljärvi, the Republic of Karelia, and the Karelia Education Society , the oldest Karelian NGO in Finland – have published jointly the first handbook in history on teaching Karelian to children of today. The book is easy to read and intended for ordinary people who respect the Karelian traditions and want to revive their ethnic language to use in their own families. The publication also is useful for Karelian language teachers, language activists, researchers, as well as to other language communities seeking to revitalize local languages.
Who wrote and about what? The author of the publication is the Karelian journalist and language activist Natalia Antonova, who has been working in the Home of the Karelian language since 2017. The book project drew from her experience in establishing and developing the language nest in the Home of the Karelian language, and her engagement in international co-operation programs and various Karelian NGOs.
The book is accompanied by two brochures. The book itself gives a detailed description of how to start speaking Karelian with a small child in a family circle, what one needs to know then, and which principles are to follow, who and which instances can help, and how to maintain the Karelian language environment outside the home. The strong and energetic message of the publication seeks to motivate and support the reader, help her take a step towards the Karelian language. One of the brochures tells about language nest, what a language nest is and why language nests are needed to revitalize an endangered language. The other brochure informs on language acquisition by pre-school aged children and how a child's bilingualism can be supported at an early age by a consequent input in Karelian.
Who else worked on the publication? The book is beautifully illustrated by Ilya Padchin. The book and brochures were designed by Jevgenija Tikhonova, and the text was edited by Tatjana Karakan.
“ABČ. STEP TOWARDS“ is published in three languages: in Russian in November 2020, the editions in Finnish and in Karelian follow soon.

The book and the brochures will be distributed in the Republic of Karelia to libraries, research and educational institutions, authorities and non-governmental organizations.
