A prestigious distinction for Professor Dr. Jens Wüstemann: At the University of Mannheim’s Universitätstag, the holder of the Chair of Business Administration, Accounting & Auditing and former President of Mannheim Business School (MBS) was awarded the University Medal in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the university.

During his 15-year tenure (2010–2025) as MBS President, the institution evolved into one of Germany’s and Europe’s leading business schools and played a key role in strengthening the overall reputation of the University of Mannheim.

Another recipient with close ties to our school was Klaus Greinert, founder of the Elite Sports Scholarship Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region, which has supported numerous MBS participants over the years.

The University Medal honors individuals who have made exceptional contributions to advancing the University of Mannheim. Congratulations to all recipients!

Three days. Eleven professionals. One clear goal: becoming a stronger leader.

Our Leaders of Tomorrow Certificate Program brought together participants from consulting, finance, HR, IT, and the public sector from companies like ING, Goldbeck, ZEQ, and more.

Led by Prof. Dr. Eric Kearney and Lukas von Hörde, the German-language program covered the full arc of modern leadership: from foundational principles and team dynamics to networking, leadership presence, and navigating difficult conversations.

What participants took home: sharper tools, new perspectives, and connections that extend well beyond the classroom.

The next course run in English will take place June 24–26. Registration is open until June 8. Find out more on our website and book your spot now:

Recently, we had the pleasure of welcoming a group of participants from E.ON and its subsidiaries to Mannheim Business School for the module "AI for Executives" – a program designed to prepare experienced managers for their next executive role. The 14 managers from a range of professional backgrounds are taking part in a Senior Development Circle program.

The module went beyond the question of how AI can be integrated into leadership. It also explored how AI is changing leadership itself. Together with Prof. Dr. Eric Kearney, the group examined current developments, opportunities, and risks around AI – and put AI tools to work directly on real leadership challenges, from decision-making to motivating teams.

We are delighted to welcome Stefan Fuchs to our Executive Fellow Circle – a select group of senior executives who actively enrich our teaching and programs with real-world expertise.

Stefan Fuchs is a Mannheim alumnus through and through: he graduated with a Diplom-Kaufmann in Business Administration here in 1994, following in the footsteps of his father Manfred Fuchs, who also studied and earned his doctorate at the University of Mannheim. Today, Stefan Fuchs serves as Chairman of the Executive Board of FUCHS SE, the global lubricants specialist that his grandfather Rudolf Fuchs founded in Mannheim in 1931 – a company that has grown from a regional motor oil business into a worldwide operation, with Mannheim remaining its global headquarters.

The ties between the Fuchs family and the University of Mannheim run deep: Stefan Fuchs also served as a member of the University Council, and the family has long supported research and teaching at the university. His two daughters have likewise studied here – making the University of Mannheim a constant across four generations of one family.

“The University of Mannheim and FUCHS SE as well as my family have been partners for many decades. Serving as an Executive Fellow for the students at Mannheim Business School is an honor and privilege for me. The bridge from theory into practice is important and fruitful for both sides. I look forward to sharing my 30 years of experience in the leadership of a successful global lubricants specialist with young and upcoming entrepreneurs.”

We look forward to the conversations, encounters, and inspiration that Stefan Fuchs and our other Executive Fellows will spark with the next generation of leaders.

This morning they were welcomed by our team and Academic Directors Prof. Dr. Florian Stahl and Prof. Dr. Jens Förderer. Mannheim Business School is among this year’s standout performers in the Financial Times Executive Education Ranking for Open Certificate Courses, published today. We moved up 11 places compared with last year, reaching #41 worldwide.

This achievement is particularly notable because Mannheim Business School has been offering these multi-day programs for professionals across all career stages for only three years. The strong momentum is reflected not only in growing participant numbers, but also in consistently excellent feedback: in the overall satisfaction category, the programs remain among the global top 20 for the second year in a row.

Our Open Certificate Courses focus on key areas including general management, leadership, data analytics & AI, procurement, and operations & quality.

Doing Business in Asia: Last week, our Mannheim Executive MBA Class of 2026 travelled to Singapore for a study trip that opened minds and doors.

The immersive week was built around one of today's most strategically relevant questions: how do you do business in Asia? From geopolitics and ESG investing to Islamic finance, entrepreneurship, and negotiation with Chinese partners, the academic program offered a rigorous and wide-ranging lens on the region. Equally important was what happened beyond the classroom: visits to the Singapore Maritime Gallery, the Port Operations Control Centre, and Maersk brought Asia's role as a global trade and logistics hub to life in concrete terms.

A guest speaker from Wateroam, a social enterprise tackling water access challenges, added a powerful reminder that innovation in Asia also means purpose-driven business.

The week closed in style at The Great Room in Centennial Tower, a fitting setting for a cohort that came to Singapore not just to learn about business deals, but to start building the relationships behind them. Thank you to ESSEC Asia-Pacific for having us!

If you would like to be part of our next Executive MBA cohort, the next intake of the ESSEC & MANNHEIM Executive MBA will be in October. If you apply by the end of June, you can save €4,500 on tuition.

What if you could build an AI system that understands your industry, your company context, and your strategic priorities and use it as a thinking partner for your most complex decisions?

That's not a future scenario but something executives are doing now.

Professor Dr. Strohmaier joins our Mannheim Masterclass Series to explore how AI is reshaping strategic thinking itself – not just automating tasks, but fundamentally changing how executives approach decisions, transformation, and uncertainty.

AI-enabled Strategy in Practice: From Personal AI Consultants to Simulated Markets

Wednesday, May 20 | 1:00–2:00 PM CEST | Online & Free

This session introduces three capabilities that are beginning to change how companies approach strategy:

- Building personal AI strategy consultants that understand your industry context and strategic priorities

- Managing AI transformation at enterprise level, aligning data, talent, governance, and leadership

- Using in-silico modeling to simulate market responses before implementing decisions in the real world

If you're navigating how to move AI from experimentation to strategic capability, this will give you frameworks you can actually use.
