On May 20, 2026, Technische Hochschule Mannheim welcomed Dr. Arne Wahrburg from ABB as part of the “Academia Meets Business” lecture series.
In his talk “Robot Motion Control – from Performance to Autonomy”, he provided exciting insights into modern industrial robot control and the future of autonomous robotic systems.
Dr. Wahrburg explained how industrial robot motion control is evolving beyond traditional performance metrics such as accuracy, speed, and lifetime. While these aspects remain highly important, modern robotic systems increasingly require flexibility, adaptability, and ease of use.
During the presentation, several innovative approaches in robot motion control were introduced, including high-accuracy robot control, transparent hand-guiding of robots, and automatic collision-free path planning.
The audience gained valuable insights into how these technologies contribute to expanding the capabilities of industrial robots and enable greater autonomy in robotic applications.
The subsequent panel discussion created an engaging exchange between students, professors, and the speaker. Topics such as the future role of autonomous robots in industry, current technological challenges, and the importance of intelligent motion planning were discussed in depth.
A big thank you to Dr. Arne Wahrburg for the inspiring presentation and the open discussion. We also thank all participants and the organizing team for contributing to a successful event within the Academia Meets Business series at TH Mannheim.
