Did the Covid-19 affect the hostility against foreigners? Vojtech Bartos from the Seminar for Behavioral and Experimental Economics investigated whether the Covid-19 crisis fueled hostility against people from other nations or ethnic minorities jointly with Michal Bauer (CERGE-EI), Jana Cahlíková (MPI for Tax Law and Public Finance), and Julie Chytilová (CERGE-EI). The team elicited hostile behavior among a nationally representative sample in the Czech Republic in an incentive compatible economic experiment at a time when the entire population was under lockdown. The findings indicate that the Covid-19 crisis magnified hostility against foreigners and underscore the importance of not inflaming anti-foreigner sentiments. The paper has been recently published in the European Economic Review and highlights that monitoring the impacts of the Covid crisis on behavior in social domains is important.

Herzlichen Dank an alle, die aktuell dafür sorgen, dass unsere Infrastruktur weiter funktioniert, danke an alle die fleißig sind, egal ob draußen, in Kliniken, im Supermarkt, beim Bäcker, in der Apotheke, in den Universitäten und Schulen, in der Verwaltung, bei der Müllabfuhr, der Polizei, der Feuerwehr, im Büro, oder auch zuhause!

Und ebenfalls großen Dank an alle, die zuhause bleiben, wenn sie es können - das erfordert unser aller Kooperation!

We are pleased to announce that as of October 2019 Andrej Woerner will be joining our team as Assistant Professor (non-tenure track). He joins us from the University of Amsterdam and Tinbergen Institute. Andrej's research focusses on applied mechanism design, behavioral economics and experimental economics.
