Reflecting less light than charcoal. ✨ Kepler-1 is a binary star system consisting of a yellow, sun-like main sequence star Kepler-1A and a faint secondary star Kepler-1B. Remarkably, Kepler-1B is the darkest known exoplanet yet, reflecting less than 1% of the light from its parent star, which means less than charcoal. This extreme blackness implies that it absorbs almost all incoming light, with only a reddish glow emanating from its burning surface as thermal radiation.

Thanks to ZEISS UNIVIEW™ software for astronomical visualizations from ZEISS Planetariums, stars and their unique characteristics can be brought to planetarium domes, allowing us to explore the universe in unprecedented details. ⭐

Get to know our ZEISS location in La Rochelle, France! 🌍

The city in the west of France is shaped by its history and numerous cultural attractions. It is the location of the production unit for intraocular implants for the treatment of cataracts and production support services of ZEISS Medical Technology. 🩺

For well over 20 years, the site has specialized in medical devices for the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases. More than 230 employees work on the production site. ZEISS has been present in France for over 110 years and employs more than 860 people across four locations.

In our NanoLab, young people explore this question and discover the fascinating world of nanotechnology. From designing mask patterns to exploring microchips layer by layer, students experience semiconductor technology hands-on. 🧑‍🔬

One highlight: the Yellow Room, where photolithography transfers fine patterns onto microchips. In collaboration with Technische Hochschule Rosenheim and MINTnetz18, our workshop sparks interest in research and innovation.

Inspiring young people for science with interactive experiments. 💙

Together with ZEISS volunteers, children and teenagers explored how microchips look under the microscope. Getting hands-on, the young participants playfully recreated the fine microchip structures and discovered how light behaves, from refraction to reflection of their mirror image. 🔎

With our global “A Heart for Science” initiative, the curiosity for science is passed on to the next generation by employees who share their knowledge and make complex topics tangible.
