EUSMAT promotes activities in Materials Science and Engineering at Saarland University, Germany.

We are in charge of education and training, in national and international context. EUSMAT is a scientific unit of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology. We promote activities in education and training, in national and international context, in the field of Materials Science and Engineering. EUSMAT coordinates different International Study Programmes:
- Atlantis Bachelor
- EEIGM (École européenne d'ingénieurs en génie des matériaux)
- AMASE (Advanced Materials Science and Engineering)
- I.DEAR
- DocMASE (Doctoral Programme in Materials Science and Engineering)

🎉 A great distinction for the Chairman of EUSMAT and Coordinator of AMASE, Prof. Frank Mücklich!

Last week, the German Society for Materials Science (DGM) named Frank Mücklich an Honorary Member, a special distinction for his decades-long commitment and outstanding contributions to the society, to its international visibility and its further development. ✨

👉 Frank Mücklich has helped shape the field of materials science and engineering throughout many years, not only as a scientist and researcher with the teams at Saarland University, Material Engineering Center Saarland (MECS) and SurFunction, but also as university professor, mentor, international networker and coordinator of EUSMAT and the AMASE programme.

👏 The EUSMAT-Team and all our international community extends its warmest congratulations on this special recognition!

🤗 Yesterday, we welcomed our international students from the programmes KOSPIE and ATLANTIS who participated in our annual Orientation Week at the Saarland University.

The students received information about the university, the different departments and programs, and also had a tour around campus 😎

We thank all the professors and colleagues from the different departments for their participation and support! ✨

🚀 Moments from the 2nd CIRKLA Summer School 2026!

GREEN METALLURGY: CASE STUDY STEEL
🌱Decarbonisation | ♻️Circularity | 💡Innovation

The summer school took place from 7 to 11 September 2026 and was organised by the European School of Materials (EUSMAT) at Universität des Saarlandes as part of the UniGR-CIRKLA project (), funded by Interreg Grande Région - Großregion 🤝

👉 The participants had the chance to discover the core principles of circular economy, learn from leading experts, connect with peers from different disciplines and tackle key issues in Europe’s steel transition.
