👋😍 EUSMAT has just gained a new team member! Warm welcome to Laura🍃

Hey,
my name is Laura and I am the newest member of the EUSMAT Team. I am currently doing my bachelors in art history and French at the Saarland University 📚.
I spend most of my free time painting, reading, bouldering or doing kickboxing. If the student life allows it, I love to travel and visit the local museums, which is why I love to participate in exchange programs myself!😊

I am looking forward to meeting all of you!
Best, Laura

The NFDI-MatWerk & FAIRmat Spring School was a total success! 📊

👉 EUSMAT is part of the organizing team of the NFDI spring schools. This time, the event took place from April 13th to 16th at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg and offered different theoretical as well as hands-on sessions about Research Data Management in Materials Science and Engineering.

From FAIR data principles and RDM basics to hands-on sessions with tools like NOMAD, NOMAD CAMELS, PASTA ELN, and Coscine, the program combined theory with practice in a highly interactive setting. 💻

The spring school concluded with insights into AI/ML, emphasizing how well-managed research data enables machine-readable, data-driven science.

Thank you to the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI), MatWerk and FAIRMat, as well as everyone who joined and contributed to this event! 🙏

👉 Come and listen to this very interessting topic by Prof. Frank Mücklich!

The event will take place on:
📅 Wednesday, March 18th, 2026
🕕at 6 p.m.
📍in the Aula (A3.3) of the Saarland University
⚠️ Event in German!

Title: Programming surfaces “intelligently” using extreme light (Oberflächen 'intellgent' programmieren durch extremes Licht)

How wonderfully intelligent evolution has designed the surfaces of plants and animals – visually attractive for choosing the best partner or safely protected for defence against enemies. Only the smallest microscopic structures make the difference. Even on a technical level, this is now possible for all material surfaces thanks to ‘Direct Laser Interference Patterning’.

The Universitätsgesellchaft des Saarlandes invites everyone to this lecture and discussion as part of their event series "Wissenschaftsforum Saar". There will be a small reception as well.

📢 Thin Films and Multilayer Coatings for Functional Applications at the MSE 2026!
Submit your abstract 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝟯𝟭 𝗝𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲!

This symposium focuses on recent developments in thin films and multilayer coatings for functional applications covering their synthesis, advanced characterization, exploration of microstructure-property relationships and their applications in surface engineering.

📆 29. September - 01. October 2026
📍 Darmstadt (Germany) & online
🔍 Learn more about the symposium and register here: https://lnkd.in/dP9KY4kV

🔬 Both, fundamental and application-oriented contributions are welcome!
▪️ Thin films and surface engineering devoted to industrial applications
▪️ Coatings for tailoring other functionalities (e.g. surface wettability for controlling condensation phenomena)
▪️ Progress in fundamental understanding of novel multi-component, metastable solid solutions, nanostructured and hybrid organic-inorganic coatings, on advanced coating architectures and design concepts and on large scale deposition approaches
▪️ Microstructure engineering of metallic, ceramic and hybrid organic-inorganic thin films to create novel micro- and nanocomposites (e.g. metallurgical processes controlling the microstructure evolution in micro- and nanoscale thin films, novel processing routes to tailor the microstructure, and influence of microstructure design, processing and post-treatments on properties and residual stress state)

👉 EUSMAT will participate through its managing director, Flavio Soldera, who is part of the organization team. German Society for Materials Science (DGM)

We look forward to welcoming your contributions!

💬 Mein Auslandssemester in Mar del Plata Argentinien:
