Uni Stuttgart IRS

Uni Stuttgart IRS This is the official page of the Institute of Space Systems (IRS) at the University of Stuttgart, Germany.

On the 26th of October 2011, the Space Center Baden-Wuerttemberg (RZBW) was inaugurated. Since then, the Institute of Space Systems (IRS) has been located within the RZBW. The move into the RZBW provided an adequate working environment to the growing number of about 170 employees. The institute’s research activities were enhanced due to the new state-of-the-art labs in the RZBW. At present, we off

er a wide range of fascinating research topics in the fields of space technologies and applications, combined with accompanying lectures, practical training, and seminars. Together with many PhD students, we are working in close cooperation with domestic and international partners from industry and research institutions. For example, the University of Stuttgart has an official branch office with the SOFIA project within the NASA Center in California, U.S.A.

Weitere Inhalte folgen.

SOFIA Technology and Operations Archive goes live

The Technology and Operations Archive (TOA) is now available as a central repository for the technical documentation of the SOFIA telescope. The archive is hosted by the SOFIA Data Centre at the IRS and ensures the long-term preservation of technical knowledge relating to the development, integration and operation of SOFIA.

The first version includes, amongst other things, the digitised technical documentation and a finite element model. Further content will follow.

Come visit us today and tomorrow at the Small Satellite Conference (SmallSat) in Salt Lake City.
At the University of Stuttgart booth, the Institute of Space Systems, together with contributions from KSat, is presenting current small satellite projects including SOURCE I & II, EIVE and ROMEO.
You can also meet one of the co-founders of AnyOrbit, a spin-off from the IRS that aims to provide accessible, flight-proven satellite platforms for low and medium Earth orbit missions.
Another project featured at the booth is SKALE (Satellite and Component Analysis for LEO Entry Simulations), funded by the DLR . SKALE investigates the demisability of printed circuit boards and other materials during satellite re-entry using experimental and numerical methods.
If you are at the conference, stop by our booth and meet the team.
