📢📢📢Our second guest for the Naval Architecture conference Dr Stephen Payne, OBE, MNM, RDI, FREng, FRINA, HonFIED is a British naval architect. He has worked on the designs of approximately 40 passenger ships for the Carnival Corporation, including the Cunard ocean liner Queen Mary 2. He is awarded as Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, Royal Designer for Industry, VADM Land Medal.

🧭Dr Stephan was born on 1960 in Greater London His interest in ocean liners began at age 5 when the BBC children’s television program Blue Peter featured a tour of the RMS Queen Elizabeth. He would later state that he was immediately captivated by the ship.

⚓Payne began his work with Carnival Corporation in January 1985 when employed by Technical Marine Planning, Ltd, then a London-based consultancy firm under contract with Carnival for the design and construction supervision of its new ships

He is currently an independent maritime consultant and is an educational advocate for engineering careers.

Let's get to know our first guest Mr Chris Boyd CEng, CMarEng, FIMarEST, FRINA

Chief Executive Officer, The Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA), a leading maritime organisation founded in 1860 to advance the art and science of ship design. ⚓

👉Chris’ own background offers some insight into the broad range of RINA’s interests. He began his career in the Royal Navy ⚓before studying Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering at the University of Glasgow🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿. Since then, he has worked all over the world, covering all types of boats, vessels, and offshore structures. Chris strives to share his vision from sustainability to leadership and for him, a key part of RINA’s role is to promote the highest standards of naval architecture and engineering, professional competence, and integrity.🧭

📢 RINA works closely with members to develop training and seed innovation, particularly in areas such as the environment and safety. It does so with an awareness of its own legacy and history.
