A military professional must be not only well-educated, but also in top physical shape 💪🏼

Yesterday, our Joint Command and General Staff Course ( ) gathered outside the building to accept a push-up challenge initiated by the Lithuanian contingent, which is currently sweeping through the units of the 🇱🇹 Lithuanian Armed Forces

Our largest course bringing together 77 students from 13 different nations united to support this meaningful initiative honoring the memory of Lithuanian soldiers who passed away this year.

We now proudly pass the challenge on to the students of the Vytautas the Great Officers’ Course in ! 🤩

The Command Senior Enlisted Leaders’ Course ( ) provided an excellent forum for exploring national security and the Elements of National Power (DIME) through a dynamic panel discussion bringing together diverse professional perspectives.

We were honoured to welcome Canadian Ambassador to Estonia Laird Hindle, distinguished journalist Evelyn Kaldoja, Commander of the National Guard (Zemessardze) BG Aivars Krjukovs, and Peeter Luikmel from Eesti Pank, with the discussion moderated by Louis Wierenga (BALTDEFCOL). The panellists shared their perspectives on how diplomatic, informational, military, and economic instruments contribute to national security and societal resilience.

The discussion reaffirmed the importance of a whole-of-society approach and effective cooperation across every element of national power. We thank all our panellists for contributing to this valuable exchange and for supporting our mission to educate future senior leaders.

On 1 October 2026, the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL) had the honour to welcome 🇬🇧 His Majesty’s Ambassador to Estonia, H.E. Ms Jo Lomas.

As this marked her first official visit since taking up her appointment in July 2026, it was an excellent opportunity to introduce our mission, educational programmes, and academic activities.

During the office call with our Commandant, MG Egils Leščinskis, discussions focused on our strong partnership with the United Kingdom as a contributing nation through key leadership personnel, as well as opportunities for future engagement.

Following this insightful visit, we look forward to welcoming Ambassador Lomas to the College and hosting her at our events many times in the future. 🤝

Maritime Week – Rozenšteins style! 🚣‍♂️🌊

While Maritime Week is underway at the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL), the Rozenšteins Syndicate decided to take the maritime theme beyond the classroom.

Eight people, one boat, eight oars — and one team. A great opportunity to put teamwork, coordination, and trust into practice while having some fun outside the lecture hall.

A big thank you to coaches Priit and Rait from the Tartu Ülikooli Akadeemiline Spordiklubi for making it possible and getting us safely moving in the right direction!

Sometimes the best teambuilding happens when everyone is literally in the same boat. ⚓️

Today, students of the tri-national ✈️ Air Force Command and Staff Course (AFCSC) from Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia visited the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL).

Welcomed by Commandant Major General Egils Leščinskis, the delegation attended briefings on our mission, educational programmes, and the Joint Command and General Staff Course (JCGSC). Designed to broaden their horizons, the visit also included stops at the Estonian Aviation Academy and local Air Force units.

Conducted annually by the General Jonas Žemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania, the AFCSC plays a key role in strengthening professional development and cooperation across the Baltic states. 🤝 🇪🇪 🇱🇻 🇱🇹

At the end of September, participants in the Command Senior Enlisted Leaders’ Course ( ) 2026 visited on their first international study trip. The group gained first-hand insights into the Finnish Defence Forces, comprehensive security, and the role of voluntary defence organisations.

The programme concluded at Hietaniemi Cemetery in Helsinki, where 36 senior non-commissioned officers representing 20 nations gathered to honour Finland's fallen servicemen and servicewomen with a wreath-laying ceremony. Standing among the memorials served as a poignant reminder of the ongoing defence of freedom today.

Experiences like these strengthen the vital bonds of international cooperation and shared remembrance among Allied and Partner nations.

During the visit, subject matter experts in the air domain took the opportunity to provide some short briefs on specific exhibits in order to bring to life some of the educational objectives that had been delivered in the classroom earlier in the week.

We were pleased to welcome Professor Carlo Masala to the Baltic Defence College for a thought-provoking seminar focused on his bestselling book 𝐈𝐟 𝐑𝐮𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐚 𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐬: 𝐀 𝐒𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐨 and the debate it has generated across Europe and the Baltic region.

Professor Masala reflected on the origins of the book, its reception among policymakers, academics, and the wider public, and the discussions it has sparked about deterrence, escalation, and perceptions of security.

The seminar prompted a highly engaged discussion, with numerous insightful questions from faculty and CSELC students. The lively exchange of views demonstrated the importance of open dialogue on contemporary security challenges and strategic thinking.
