Currently serving as Chairman of the Chinese Bone Transport & Diabetic Foot Society and Secretary General of both ASAMI China and ILLRS China, Professor Zhang is one of the world's leading authorities in limb reconstruction, external fixation, and bone transport surgery.
Recognized as a pioneer in China, he was among the first to introduce Ilizarov and distraction osteogenesis techniques for the treatment of severe limb deformities, chronic osteomyelitis, complex trauma sequelae, and advanced diabetic foot—saving countless patients from amputation and restoring function to those with otherwise untreatable conditions.
His groundbreaking innovations, including refined transverse bone transport and tissue regeneration techniques for diabetic foot and chronic ischemic limbs, have transformed clinical practice and established new standards of care.
An internationally respected clinician-scientist, Professor Zhang has published more than 100 scientific papers, secured multiple national research grants, and authored several landmark textbooks that have become essential references in limb reconstruction surgery throughout China.
Through his leadership, research, and commitment to education, he continues to shape the future of orthopedic reconstruction while inspiring surgeons around the world.
