This is a translation of a post written today by one of Nebny volunteers. Aya volunteered with Nebny almost four years ago, then she moved with her family to the United States. Yet, she still remembers her experience with Nebny, and it is a nice surprise to read her post today. Thanks Aya 🙂
“I’d like to share my experience with a group of beautiful people whom I have been honored to know and to contribute with them by a very simple effort. I am blessed I had known them through one of them and had the opportunity to work with them closely - I am writing this to bring hope to those who might be discouraged about reform of the country by the efforts of its people...
Intellectuals, well-educated and knowledgeable people can simply follow their model by similar experiences. Regardless whether smaller or bigger, it depends upon each group’s capacity and capabilities in order to take a positive step to improve the quality of education and living conditions for people in need.
My experience with that group began when one day I was at the cinema with a beautiful friend and she said she had to leave to an informal area. I could not imagine why she would go there. Hence, I asked her, and she answered that she, along with a group of volunteers of young people and university students, help children in that informal area by offering them free classes after school hours; similar to educational centers providing private tutoring but the difference is that their classes are free of charge for children whose families are financially underprivileged and educationally incapable of helping their children to learn.
This experience has truly been enriching to me, affected me so much, and has certainly brought me more happiness than what I have given to the children whom I taught. Though it did not take from my time as a mom with my kids except few hours weekly, yet it was during those few hours that I felt that if everyone of us tried to give, life would definitely be better. The seed that this group had planted will most likely grow to be a fruitful tree and shade for people in need, and that deserve our care and looking after. Nobody should lose hope or underestimate his/her effort no matter how little it is. ”
