He came in to help on a friend’s play and never left.

Today, Ahmed El Attar ’93 is an independent theater director, playwright and the founder of D-CAF, Egypt’s largest international multidisciplinary contemporary arts festival.

He arrived at AUC as a computer science major. He took on one production as an assistant stage manager and the next thing he knew, he had changed his major to theater. From there, he built a career from Cairo to Avignon.

Now he is back where it began, helping revive the Falaki Mainstage Theater at AUC Tahrir Square.

Join us on October 22nd for Art, Culture and Change, a talk by Sheikha Hoor Al Qasimi, artist, curator, President and Director of the Sharjah Art Foundation. She will explore how cultural institutions can make space for diverse voices and overlooked histories.

From the classroom to the streets of Cairo, Georgetown University in Qatar students spent a week discovering Egypt through language, culture and learning at AUC.

Their visit included Arabic language learning, conversations with AUC faculty and President Ahmad Dallal and experiences across Cairo, from the Nile and Saqqara to the Grand Egyptian Museum and historic Coptic and Islamic Cairo.

Along the way, they gained new perspectives on Egypt while experiencing AUC student life firsthand.

AUC honors Dr. Atef Eltoukhy ’74 for a remarkable journey as an alumnus, former instructor, trustee and board chair, as well as for his lasting commitment to education and expanding opportunities for future generations.
