KHADIGA GAAFAR, PhD., chairperson of Cairo University Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC)
د. خديجة جعفر، استاذ متفرغ بكلية العلوم جامعة القاهرة - قسم الحيوان، وهي اول من انشاء لجنة لأخلاقيات رعاية واستخدام حيوانات التجارب فى التعليم و البحث العلمى في مصر و تم انشائها في جامعة القاهره عام ٢٠١٤، والان تساعد الجامعات الاخرى لعمل هذه اللجنة التي تستلزم المجلات العلميه العالميه موافقتها اذا تمت التجارب على حيوانات حتى يتم نشر الأبحاث.
حصلت علي بكالوريوس في علم الحيوان، كلية العلوم، جامعة القاهرة، مايو١٩٧١، مع مرتبة الشرف، وحصلت علي دكتوراه في الفيسيولوجيا، كلية العلوم، جامعة القاهرة ١٩٨٤، وكانت رسالة الدكتوراة بعنوان "دراسة نسيجية مقارنة لجزر لانجرهانس في بعض الأسماك العظمية"
Dr. Khadija Gaafar is a full-time professor at the Faculty of Science, Cairo University - Department of Zoology. She was the first to establish a committee on ethics for the care and use of experimental animals in education and scientific research in Egypt. The committee was established at Cairo University in 2014. Gaafar is now assisting other universities to establish this committee that requires the approval of international scientific journals if experiments on animals were conducted, in order to publish their research papers.
She received her Bachelor of Science (Chemistry/Zoology) with Honors from Faculty of Science, Cairo University, 1971 and her PhD in Physiology, from the same university in1984 entitled “Comparative Histophysiological study on Islets of Langerhans in Some Bony Fishes”
خلال مشوارها الاكاديمي شغلت العديد من الوظائف منها رئاسة أول لجنة للعناية المؤسسية واستخدام الحيوانات في كلية العلوم، جامعة القاهرة، مصر، 2012-2014. ، هي رئيسة لجنة الأخلاقيات لاستخدام حيوانات التجارب والبحث العلمي بجامعة القاهرة 2014 حتى الآن، بالإضافة الي ذلك هي رئيس الجمعية المصرية لتقدم العلوم الحيوية " الجمعية المصرية الألمانية لعلوم الحيوان سابقا"منذ عام ٢٠١٢، و التي تنشر مجلة Journal of Basic and Applied Zoology وهي مجلة علمية متخصصة محكمة دولية منشورة من خلال SpringerOpen و معترف بها من المجلس الاعلي للجامعات
كان لها العديد من الانجازات من أهمها مساهمتها في تأسيس المعهد العالي للدراسات النوعية في عام ١٩٩٤، وتأسيس معهد التكنولوجيا الزراعية عام ٢٠٠١، كذلك ساعدت في تأسيس الجمعية المصرية الألمانية لعلم الحيوان في عام ١٩٩٠
كما ساهمت دكتور خديجة في انشاء الجمعية المصرية لتقدم علوم الحيوان عام ٢٠١٨ لتقديم الدعم و التدريب العلمي العالمي للباحثين و العلماء المتعاملين مع الحيوانات والاهتمام بنشر ثقافة حماية الحيوانات المعملية من الاستخدام المؤلم والغير ضروري
Dr. Khadija also contributed to the establishment of the Egyptian Association for Animal research advancement "eaara" in 2018 that provide global support and scientific training to researchers and scientists dealing with animals and interest in spreading the culture of protecting experimental animals from painful and unnecessary use.
In her academic career, she held many positions, including chairing the first committee for institutional care and animal use in the Faculty of Science, Cairo University, Egypt, 2012-2014. She is also the Chair of the Ethics Committee for Experimental Animal Use and Scientific Research at Cairo University from 2014 until now. Moreover, since 2012, she has been President of the The (Egyption Socity For Biosciences Advancement (ESBA) Formerly Known " Egyptian German Society of Zoology " which publishes Journal of Basic and Applied Zoology, a specialized international scientific journal, Publishing with SpringerOpen and approved by the Supreme Council of universities
She had many achievements, the most important of which was her contribution to establish the Higher Institute for Specific Studies in 1994. She also founded the Institute for Agricultural Technology in 2001, and assisted in establishing the Egyptian German Society of Zoology in 1990.
