🧬 Advancing Microbial Biotechnology Through Evolutionary Insights

As part of the NU Biotechnology Seminar Series, organized by the School of Biotechnology at Nile University, Dr. Marwa Nabil, Associate Professor of Microbial Biotechnology at Nile University and the Faculty of Agriculture, Cairo University, delivered a scientific talk entitled “Adaptive Evolution: From Antibiotic Resistance to Industrial Biotechnology” on 5 October 2026.

The seminar explored bacterial adaptation and antimicrobial resistance, with a focus on Pseudomonas aeruginosa, integrating genomic, transcriptomic, and phenotypic perspectives. It also highlighted opportunities to apply evolutionary insights to industrial biotechnology, including sustainable biomanufacturing and bioplastics production.

Through its seminar series, the School of Biotechnology at Nile University promotes scientific exchange and interdisciplinary collaboration, bridging fundamental research with emerging applications in biotechnology and industry.

🌍 Strengthening International Collaboration in Biotechnology at Nile University

The School of Biotechnology at Nile University was honored to host Mr. Tycho Vermeulen, Agricultural Counselor at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Cairo, on 21 July 2026 for a fruitful meeting focused on exploring opportunities for collaboration in agricultural innovation and research

The visit provided an excellent opportunity to showcase the School's academic excellence, cutting-edge research, and ongoing initiatives in agricultural biotechnology and sustainable innovation. Congratulations to our Biotechnology students, Jana H. Abd El-Wahab, Adham M. AlDakrany, and Mohamed A. Aref, for winning 2nd Place at the Harvard Health Systems Innovation Lab (HSIL) Hackathon 2026!

Their AI-powered project, Neurozen, impressed judges by using MRI scans to predict glioma genetic properties without surgical intervention, earning them a place in the incubation program and an opportunity to showcase their innovation at Harvard University in Boston.

We are proud of this outstanding achievement by our School of Biotechnology students and wish them continued success!
