In two days, Obreal and OWSD - UNESCO will discuss what it takes to build science systems where women can participate, progress and lead.

This Wednesday, October 21 at 14h CEST, the webinar Women in science across regions will present two initiatives that connect researchers across Latin America, Africa and the Arab region. One supports institutional change in science and the other one links science, gender and resilience in displacement settings.

Obreal is in Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) this week with partners from the Erasmus+ project IMPACT HE for a staff shadowing program. Over four days, participants are learning about the management of European and international projects, UCM’s internationalization strategy and its cooperation opportunities with Africa, student services, and quality assurance and impact assessment, including the role of AI in these processes.

These are issues on the agenda of universities in every region, which is why the program is built around exchange. Participants share their own experience, discuss and compare approaches, and question how AI is reshaping the way universities evaluate themselves, so that everyone contributes and everyone takes ideas back to their institution.

Social cohesion and resilience don’t mean much if only some regions get to build them.

That is the focus of Inclusion, Cohesion, and an Expanded Interregional Architecture, the third of three action tracks structuring the Fourth Interregional Dialogue on Education and Development. The track brings together youth leadership, evidence-informed policy, community-based research, science diplomacy, university-community engagement, social cohesion, resilience and peacebuilding, with a focus on expanding the interregional architecture toward new regions and partners.

Social cohesion and resilience don’t mean much if only some regions get to build them.

How can interregional cooperation help build more inclusive science systems that enable women scientists to participate, progress and lead?

Organized by Obreal, the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) and UNESCO, the webinar “Women in science across regions. Connecting knowledge, talent and solutions on the Road to Addis Ababa” will explore that question next Wednesday, October 21, at 2:00 p.m. CEST.

With speakers from OWSD, UNESCO, the University of Zimbabwe and the Nepal Leadership Academy, the session brings together voices from different regions and institutions. It is part of the Fourth Interregional Dialogue on Education and Development, and will help prepare the ground for the gathering in Addis Ababa in December.

At Obreal, we work to strengthen interregional cooperation in higher education, and QADoc is a clear example of how we do it. This initiative brings together universities, ministries and quality agencies from Africa and Europe to build shared approaches to doctoral education.

In Senegal, Guinea and the DRC, QADoc is working with institutions to improve supervision, with agencies to refine evaluation methods and with national teams to co-design frameworks adapted to local realities.

At Obreal, we work to strengthen interregional cooperation in higher education, and QADoc is a clear example of how we do it. This initiative brings together universities, ministries and quality agencies from Africa and Europe to build shared approaches to doctoral education.
