MURR Archaeometry Lab is currently accepting proposals for the 2020 cycle of our Pre-Doctoral Internship Program. This is a paid internship program designed for graduate students seeking experience and support for their dissertation projects.



We are currently accepting proposals with a focus on compositional analysis of archaeological materials, including ceramics, pigments, or lithics, using one or more methods available through our laboratory (NAA, XRF, LA-ICP-MS). Minimum Qualifications:
1) An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Anthropology or other closely-related field from an accredited institution (or equivalent) is required; however, applicants nearing the completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered. The doctorate must be completed by the date of appointment (8/20/2020). 2) Evidence of effective teaching in anthropology at the undergraduate level, particularly in biological anthropology.
3) Evidence of scholarly engagement (e.g., publications, external funding, presentations, and partnerships).
Preferred Qualifications:
1) Evidence of experience mentoring undergraduates and/or graduate students.
2) Demonstrated ability to work with and mentor a diverse student population.
3) Experience developing fieldwork, research projects, or community-based projects with students.
4) Teaching and/or research experience that complements current faculty specializations, including but not limited to: human skeletal biology, forensics, dental anthropology, primatology, human ecology, immigration/migration, socioeconomic inequality, contact/colonization, or gender and identity.
Duties:
The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are: teaching, research, scholarship and/or creative activity, and service to the University, profession and to the community. These responsibilities generally include: advising students, participation in campus and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions.
The selected candidate may be assigned to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in introductory biological anthropology as well as upper-division undergraduate and graduate courses in the candidate’s area(s) of expertise. The regional area of focus is open.

The Department:
The Department of Anthropology is housed in the College of Natural and Social Sciences. The department is one of 15 departments within the College of Natural and Social Sciences, which supports academic programs for approximately 6000 students. Majors in the college are trained to become highly competent professionals capable of solving technical environmental problems, developing public policy, pursuing advanced degrees, and becoming productive members of a diverse society.
The Department of Anthropology offers B.A., minor, and M.A. degrees in Anthropology. We are a four-field department with 7 tenure-track faculty and active research labs and field schools in archaeology, biological anthropology, cultural anthropology, and linguistic anthropology.

Gilliane Monnier and Gilbert Tostevin are currently accepting new graduate students at the University of Minnesota. Our graduate students have exciting research opportunities, if desired, at the Paleolithic site of Crvena Stijena in Montenegro, where we are conducting NSF-funded excavations. Graduate students in our program receive five years of guaranteed funding through TA-ships and fellowships. Our department contains a vibrant community of faculty and graduate students doing research in paleoanthropology, human evolution, and Paleolithic archaeology. We have strong collaborations with colleagues in Earth Sciences; Soil Sciences; Chemistry; Biochemistry; Mathematics; Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior; and Geography. We partner with cutting-edge research instrumentation facilities such as the Advanced Imaging Service for Objects and Spaces and the Characterization Facility.

The preliminary program for SciX just came out this week and is attached. The SAS sessions are both on Monday, October 14th and are listed in the program under the codes "19SPECIAL03" and "19SPECIAL04". Stony Brook University Faculty Position Assistant Professor, Paleoanthropology--Hominin Paleontology

As part of a university-wide initiative involving the Turkana Basin Institute, the Department of Anthropology at Stony Brook University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. This position is one of five faculty lines that have been created across campus for researchers whose interests intersect with the goals and resources of the Turkana Basin Institute.

We seek to hire an individual with expertise in hominin paleontology. We encourage applicants from any area of hominin evolutionary morphology, including craniodental and postcranial skeletal morphology, phylogenetics and paleobiology. We seek a candidate with the potential to augment or build upon one or more of the Department of Anthropology's current research strengths, further strengthen synergistic relations with other departments on campus such as Anatomical Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Ecology & Evolution, and Geosciences, and take advantage of Stony Brook's unique relationship with the Turkana Basin Institute. The Department of Anthropology at Emory University (Atlanta, GA) invites applications for three tenure track positions to begin Fall 2020.

For this cluster hire, the Department seeks scholars at the assistant or associate level who are engaged in cutting-edge research in any area of biological anthropology. To complement existing departmental strengths, we are particularly interested in scholars engaged in field and/or lab-based research in the areas of behavioral/human ecology, genetics, human biology, paleoanthropology, prehistoric archaeology, primatology, and scientifically-based medical anthropology. Candidates should be willing and able to regularly teach a large introductory course in biological anthropology or human biology along with courses in their area of expertise and be willing to mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
